The Most Memorable Play in Ravens History!
"What's the most memorable play in Ravens history?" That question has been asked 'round these parts many times and in many ways, but here it is in big, bold font for all the world to see: on ESPN.com, hosted by our own Jamison Hensley, asked via fan poll.
http://espn.go.com/blog/baltimore-ra...emorable-Plays
The three big nominees are:
(1) Ray-Ray's virtual pick-six off Eddie George,
(2) Jermaine Lewis' kickoff return for a TD in our first Super Bowl, and
(3 ... what else?) The Mile High Miracle
Unsurprisingly, Flacco's Fling is leading right now with about 65% of the votes. I say unsurprisingly because it is the most recent of all the events, and there is of course a bias toward labeling the most recent thing (in a series of things, whatever they are) the most [adjective.]
Still though, despite that bias, I cast my vote the same. I gotta go Mile High Miracle. The only football play that I know for a fact will live in my heart forever. Without me caring how corny that sounds. The only football play I have framed on my wall.
What's your vote? Was it not on this list? Personally, I'm surprised Ray Rice's 4th and 29 and Ed Reed's (at the time I believe record-tying or -breaking) INT return off the Eagles for a TD didn't make the cut, but maybe they only had room for three. The other two "memorable" plays I can think of probably wouldn't qualify because one is too negative (Evans, Lee) and the other is too specific/small-scale (Heap bowling over the Chargers for the game-winning TD at M&T.)Last edited by akashicrecorder; 07-09-2014 at 04:20 PM.

When Ray took the pass off of Eddie George's shoulders it crushed their hopes. But I have to say it's a tie with the Milehigh miracle

Re: The Most Memorable Play in Ravens History!
Yeah gotta be. Everyone thought that game was over. Peyton moves on as had already been annointed to play Tom Brady, I'm ready to start breaking shit after another playoff let down...but wait.....
Another play among the most memorable for me was CMac running the short field goal attempt back. A play you very rarely see attempted much less executed. Ray Lewis lays one of the most devestating blocks right in the middle of the field. And Billick chasing him down the sideline screaming. That's what Ravens D was about back in those days.

Re: The Most Memorable Play in Ravens History!
Maybe I'm a lemming, but I'm right there with ya, Brit. I'd watched the replay of the MHM so many times that I no longer need the replay; it's etched so clearly in my mind. Even the network commentary is stuck in my memory: "Flacco stepping up and throwing deep down the far sideline ...CAUGHT!! INTO THE END ZONE, TOUCHDOWN JACOBY JONES!! ...(pause) ...How does that happen in the Denver secondary?!"
Without that very low probability play coming off, 2012 becomes just another ho-hum year of making the playoffs but getting bounced and missing the Super Bowl. How much tougher to swallow would 2013's mediocre performance have been if we hadn't won it all in 2012?Last edited by trailhiker85; 07-09-2014 at 05:10 PM.

Re: The Most Memorable Play in Ravens History!
I voted for Ray Lewis' interception. Brute force and athleticism prevailed.
I agree with all four of your suggested additions. I would also add:
- Banks-to-Sharpe in the final minute to finally beat Jacksonville 39-36 to begin our teams' march to the Super Bowl. (if that play were on the list, it would have gotten my vote).
- Chris McAlister's 108 yard return of missed Denver FG, aided by massive Ray Lewis block
- 4th & goal SB 47: Ed Reed & Jimmy Smith & pressure from blitzing LB Dannell Ellerbe
- Flacco to Brown at 0:04 in the snow to overcome wildest 2:04 finish in Ravens history
In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

Mile High Miracle.
I still have that game on my DVR, and I watch it every 3 months or so. There are few videos out there that give me greater pleasure.

The Most Memorable Play in Ravens History!
On occasion, I still watch the Denver fan reaction videos on YouTube to the Mile High Miracle.
I'm not above a little schadenfreude.

Re: The Most Memorable Play in Ravens History!
I would agree it is the MHM.
But consider if you will, the OTHER play in the Titan playoff game.
Our offense was done, couldn't get a freaking first down...forget about scoring.
Titan's drive, they are kicking the go ahead field goal in the 4th quarter...which would make it 13-10.
BUT NO, it is blocked! And It is caught in the air...and there goes Anthony Mitchell! 90 yards!!!Suddenly, instead of 13-10 and praying...the Ravens are up by 7 in the 4th.
That setup Ray's pick six.
