    2014 rs

It's more than likely that Jacoby will be playing for someone else in 2014, which means that the Ravens are going to need a new Return Specialists.

Deonte Thompson- Has experience returning kickoffs and punts, is fast and doesn't fumble. However a concern may be that he is outshined by other receivers in training camp/preseason and doesn't make the final 53.

Asa Jackson-Has done well as a returner in the preseason. The problem with him is whether he doesn't get to play in 2014 because of suspensions.

Lardarius Webb- Given Lardarius' value to the defense he would only be handling kickoffs, but he is experienced as a returner.

A Rookie Not on the Roster- It's entirely possible that the Ravens could just target somebody like Dri Archer in the late rounds and give him the job.

I wouldn't even bother putting Webb on that list. Not happening except maybe for sure handed punts like we used to do with Reed.

Jackson and DT would be the most likely guys currently on roster, but remains to be seen if they make the 2014 squad. I'm sure one or two rookies will have return capabilities as well. And, I'd bet that a cheap depth FA we pickup will also challenge at the return spot. We know returners only come from the RB, WR, CB, S group generally.

Also worth mentioning this could be the chance for Doss to come back to the team. I don't think we value him at WR anymore, but he was pretty hot at PR for a bit this year. He'd probably fit the cheap bill, so possibly could be brought in to try and win the RS job, at least on the punt return side.

With the declining importance of kickoff returns due to the increase in touchbacks, it doesn't make sense to fret over the KR position. Sure, you'd love to have a Jacoby Jones who can take one or two back to the house every season, but it's purely a luxury. They'll find somebody who can catch a kickoff and kneel down a few times per game.

Punt returns are a bit different story... IMO as kickoff returns decline in importance, punt returns become even more important. I do agree that Doss provided a spark often on PRs last year, but first of all he's an RFA, so he needs to be tendered or re-signed, and the team may not be inclined to do that with a guy who doesn't contribute at WR at all and doesn't (IIRC) return kickoffs either.

In this Draft especially, there will be several UDFA candidates for the RS role.

This is my thought too. The team is going to have a youth movement, there is no other option. Doss will likely get a shot too.

However, I'm not sure why "it's looking more and more like Jacoby will be playing for someone else". It's just Jan

lol of course, I should have said "In this year especially..."
Draft and UDFA don't really mix.
