Depends. If Thompson goes to IR they'll keep them all. If not, it's either Doss/Williams getting cut with slight possibility that Mellette also goes to PS.

Can any of those other receivers play special teams better than Laquan Williams though?

I don't see Mellette clearing waivers (yes, I know, cliche - no high horses please :p) to get to PS. But you're right, if IR is an option for Deonte then that could make this easier.

I'd feel sad if LaQuan doesn't make the team but I'd understand it.

I also think Brown's push for a spot endangers Mellette more than anyone else and Doss secondarily:

Smith, Jones, Stokely, Brown, LaQuan; Doss on the bubble, Thompson to PUP, Mellette on PS

I disagree. I believe this is a year that the 'special teams specialist' position carries less weight. Besides, Rainey showed up on special teams.

I agree about Mellette but we've predicted these things wrong in the past (IE last year the board FREAKED when they put Rainey on PS... made it through without incident).

Who knows though. I just can't see them carrying seven but each of those guys provides value in different ways. Doss is the most easily forgotten IMO.

I don't know how much this proves for Doss... he can get open against the 2s and 3s, good for him. Don't know if that wins him a roster spot in year 3.

You may disagree but the coaches obviously think otherwise, if they didn't he wouldn't be around.

"Special teams" is not one position. A couple of players will make the team (or not) for their special teams play.

He wasn't. They basically cut him at the end of the year. Put him on ir without any significant injury
