This is turning out as another great Ozzie draft already
There's been so many of them but this is turning out to be a great draft already which is why he wins SBs.
The Ravens site features an article about their hard hitting top 2 picks -
Elam and Brown. As someone posted, Elam looks like a heat seeking
missle coming up fast in the box and can cover too. He could be the
steal of the entire draft going at the very bottom unless Brown beats
him out as the steal.
Elam hit the 6'2, 240 Steven Jackson and body slammed him to the ground
Thurs night. Elam is 5'10. Then Brown hit a guy sending him backward and Elam
finished him off. Brown also showed his speed at ILB as well as
cover skills. Jackson is one of the hardest guys in NFL to bring down.

Elam was taken over Cyprien and several other good prospects that
went at the top of the second round for his hard hitting and cover
skills. Brown was a first round draft prospect that dropped to Ozzie
too. Don't they all?
Then there's Mellette taken at #7 and will be impossible to sneak
thru waivers. After scoring Thurs night he deserves the chance to
run with the first unit but will make the team even if he doesn't.
#3 pick Brandon Williams is seeing action and made plays.
Then there's everyone's favorite, the undrafted former Terp Matt Furstenburg,
who will also be difficult to sneak to the practice and might make the team.
# 4 pick John Simon made a big play too Thurs night and KJ from Harvard made
a play and #5 pick Ricky Wagner the lineman from Wisconsin is already being
discussed as a possible future LT to replace McKinney some day.
It's interesting that this article mentions #6 pic DE Kapron Lewis-Moore as being
a future sleeper in the draft and praised Ravens for taking a chance
on him even though he might NOT even play this year. See why in link.
I've read absolutely nothing on this dude.

Re: This is turning out as another great Ozzie draft already
It looked good right after the draft and it definitely looks good now.
The only spot they could have addressed harder was WR, but considering what was on the board, they did an very good job.

According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

Re: This is turning out as another great Ozzie draft already
If you had to rank the draft picks from least productive so far to most...
1. Kapron lewis moore - INJURED
2. Ryan Jensen - INJURED
3. Marc Anthony - last draft pick, had a good gave vs Atlanta though
4. Kyle Juszczyk - has a ways to go in blocking, still good hands. His issue is simply in finding a role, not poor play
5. John Simon - Looked very good on Thursday, still shows some few rookie mistakes
6. Rick Wagner - Might be a suprisingly good LT
7. Aaron Mellette - 7th rounder who has worked his way into reps with the 1s and talk of possibly being a candidate to start
8. Brandon Williams - Big mofo. Isn't totally there yet, but already proving a big object on the DL
9. Arthur Brown - Seems on track to start now, has good instincts to sniff out plays
10. Elam - May not be the complete package at S, but sure hits well, and may develop the FS ballhawk style over time..

Still in shock brown was there in the first round let alone the second for us. Said he would be a stud before the draft. Was his biggest backer here and he's impressing me alot.

Re: This is turning out as another great Ozzie draft already
I have to confess I am more and more intrigued by Mellete. The more he continues to show the more I think he might (emphasize MIGHT) seperate himself from the other "diamonds in the rough" late drafted/rookie FA WRs of past years. I'm really trying not to get my hopes up but if he keeps impressing.... hey. It would be something if this guy could develop into our own Colston.
They hate us..... but they want to BE us. (.... or at least poach all our players/coaches/FO people!) :respect

Re: This is turning out as another great Ozzie draft already
I love your tag line.
Great posts everyone and spot on. I was listening to Rob and Vinny on draft
night and Rob was disappointed in Elam. I think he wanted Cyprien but
Vinny liked Elam but wasn't excited about him.
I just want to see Mellette get a chance to
start in the pre-season from little Elon. Ozzie has a thing about little schools
getting Bernard Pierce from Temple who greatly contributed last year.
I'd love to see them move Rice to slot and rotate him and start Pierce as RB and we still have Allen and Rainy as backups and they could still run Rice. The Colts moved Lenny Moore to WR and he terrorized Ds for years and played both positions. Rice has his speed and hands.Last edited by AirFlacco; 08-18-2013 at 12:53 PM.

I hope things turn out a well as we all hope but its way too early. At least give it a season before forming an opinion.

For the younger crowd not as old as myself(or AF :) ) the Eagles did that with Westbrook a bit more recently. RR definitely has the skill set to be effective. Also could line RR up in the backfield(2 RB set?) and put him in motion would make the defense adjust on the fly.

Great point. I posted an article about this a month ago but haven't seen it yet.
They're saving it as you said.
Thanks.

Re: This is turning out as another great Ozzie draft already
For Joe's first several years he was getting knocked by his critics for all of the dump offs thrown to RR. They failing to mention the other team has a responsibility to stop it. It's smart to use an effective weapon. Seeing Ray scoot downfield after taking a dump off is exciting and feared. I'm looking forward to seeing him further utilized as a receiver.
