Bah... whatever... "i before e" and all that. Could have been a typo on the submission, could have been an error made by people casting the plaque. Mistakes happen and the Os are going to fix it.

    This.

And I before E doesn't really apply to names, especially ones that haven't been totally Americanized.

:grbac: Good organizations make sure even the little things are done right before they get done at all, because they understand that reputation and goodwill are always at stake. Bad organizations never bother because they don't care.

I suspect this gaffe is going to get traced back to someone who's pulling down a salary due more to who s/he knows rather than what s/he knows...& some personally-unconnected low-level employee will be forced to take the rap.:bag:

Mistakes happen, but a competent organization would have taken the trouble to make sure that no such mistake would ever end up cast in bronze & bolted to the wall for the whole world to see, doncha think?

Unless I'm thinking of the totally wrong plaques, I think it would be bolted to the ground. But yeah it's a little hard to believe that no one caught this, I'm sure getting these plaques placed involves several different people having some part in it. Before this year he was the 2nd biggest name on our team, and the employees don't know his name?

I find it hard to believe the Orioles would not know how to spell Wieters last name, so I think the submission was probably correct, but the plaque maker messed it up. That said, how do you not check that before putting it in the ground?

    Just epic failure.

The Nationals had "Nationals" spelled incorrectly on their jerseys once.

    Shit happens.

At least the O's are winning. I think that speaks more to where the quality of the organization is at than some plaque.
