    Super Bowl 35 - rewatched.

I haven't re-watched the original broadcast since the year it took place, but in my recent post-superbowl champion glow I have been having these traditional lazy sundays where I watch past superbowls with one of my cats sleeping on my stomach. It's as much for her as it is for me :D

So I re-watched Superbowl 35. It was almost surreal, maybe because the unis haven't changed too much, or that Ray was there, or that it's only been 12 years, but it felt like it was yesterday. What I was amazed by was how much I had forgotten about the game, though I did remember quite a bit. Some of my observations that bear noting(ones that maybe we don't all remember from off of the tops of our heads):

    1. Wow, Trent Dilfer SUCKED. I mean just flat out stunk, other than not turning the ball over...well...except for that horrendous decision to throw directly to a Giants defender that luckily a sketch holding call overturned and saved his sorry ass. He missed tons of WIDE open receivers, two of which would have been walk in scores. If Joe Flacco had been on that team we might have scored 50+ points.

    2. What a difference it was watching THAT defense compared to the 2012 version. They brutalized the Giants, and while a few of the hits would likely have been penalties now, I don't think it would have mattered. That defense could have had about four more interceptions that it did, dropping quite a few easy ones.

    3. Tony Siragusa was FAT. I mean REALLY fat. How that guy could move around like that with the huge gut reminds me of Vince Wilfork a bit.

    4. Sam Adams - see above.

    5. McCrary was an absolute physical monster. When he's jogging into the lockerroom with a few guys escorting him getting his hand x-rayed, he looks like some otherworldly giant next to them as he jogs along with these huge strides.

    6. How Jermaine Lewis managed to run that kickoff back for a score was totally remarkable. I still can't fathom how he squeezed by the Giants tacklers who had him pinned to the sideline.

    7. Billick's grimace after Ron Dixon's score was quintessential Billick-face when he was pissed. Funny how quickly his emotions changed.

    8. This game was over by halftime, even at 10-0. There was no chance of the Giants offense scoring points in the second half. They were happless, and helpless.

    9. Phil Simms hasn't changed as a broadcaster at all.

    10. Watching OJ Brigance, big, strong and full of energy was sobering.

Good stuff. I watched it a few weeks ago. To see OJ like that is sobering. That D ws something for the ages. Most dominant I ever laid eyes on and I watched a lot of the bears games in '85 and '86.

The Giants were an inferior opponent......not so the 49ers, which made this last victory even more impressive.

    4. Sam Adams - he did carry some extra pounds, but he was still the quickest interior lineman I've ever seen.

Sam Adams might have had the best first step of all time. Offensive lines just collapsed once the ball was snapped. That opened up everyone else. Amazing to watch.

Yeah, I watched that game a few months before this Super Bowl and it is really surprising about how bad Dilfer Sucked. I mean it was comical. He was throwing balls that were falling 5 yards short of players, etc. I know that may not have been the norm back then, but I certainly don't remember him being THAT much worse than the rest. Was Dilfer that bad or has QB play really developed that much in the last 15 years?

Dilfer really was that bad but there were rumors of arm issues that bothered him all season. His arm strength was a lot better with the Seahawks than it was with the Ravens.

Dilfer's TD to Stokley was pretty sweet.

I knew the game was over as soon as Starks took that pick back to the house.

LOL, I have a co-worker in my office who is a Giants fan and he is still complaining about that Super Bowl...and how they would have had a shot if they had just run freaking Ron Dayne! LMAO!!

And he absolutely hates Kerry Collins of course lol.
Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

I knew it too. Then, 2 minutes later, I un-knew it. Then, 2 minutes later ...

They would have had a shot at what? Getting Ron Dayne to the hospital in Tampa? That was the defense that got Bruce Coslet fired and Cory Dillon to refuse to go back in a game. Ron Dayne would have been destroyed.
