Re: FYI - air fares to Super Bowl
I plan on driving since I'm taking Danny.
I'm 90 percent sure that face value is $800 a piece.
Here are some sites to look for tickets:
www.compareticketsites.com
Ebay.com
Stubhub.com
Razorgator.com
BTW, if anyone gets chosen in the lottery and you cannot go OR you have a connection for "reasonably" priced tickets, please let me know (fdgrau @ yahoo . com).
Re: FYI - air fares to Super Bowl
thanks for the tip on the $108 tickets. can't lose out on those prices even of I end using the ticket for bookmark. i hate being premature but anyone know how many tickets would go through the lottery?

IIRC for SB XXXV, what I heard was there were about 5,000 - 10,000 or so tickets available to Ravens fans. The lottery weighting was something like 1:1 for suite holders, 5:1 for clubs, and over 10:1 for general admission.
Obviously, we all want to hit the lottery and obtain face value tickets.
I actually won a pair of tickets in the league-wide lottery for SB XXXVI in New Orleans. The face value of the tickets was $325. Since Grbac, Brookins, Travis Taylor etc did not take us to the Promised Land, I sold the tickets, over my wife's objections. I got $1,500 apiece, which was in the brokers' range. I subsequently saw on message boards that the street value that year was below $1000, with several claiming they bought them at face value outside the Superdome. Makes me think that SB XXXV may have been an aberration, due to all the NY Giants fans driving up demand.
Assuming that I don't win in the Ravens lottery and that brokers tickets are unreasonably high, I will go to Tampa to see what I can score down there.

I'll be doing the same. My worry is spending $1000+ and then finding at the gate it was counterfeit. I wonder of there are any ways to reduce that risk?
I also think it is wrong to give suite owners and Club level owners better chances in the lottery. By doing that you are basically telling about 90% of the PSL owners you are secondary. Of course I have been called a socialist before but this is a classic example of why I root for the common man.

It's a legitimate concern. My thought was to get the driver's license number and fingerprints of the person selling. If he refuses, it's a con.
As to the weighted lottery, I disagree with you. Fans who fork over $300 to $700 a seat should take precedence over those who pay $50 -$100 a seat. The premium seats are what Baltimore had to offer, which Cleveland could not -- they are the reason we have a team, which is financially successful.

I would suggest the 90% or whatever it is that are being penalized by purchasing pedestrian PSLs are more vital to the success of the organization than the premiums seats owners as a group. Certainly much more than the club levels. I think it makes an unfortunate statement when the importance of a fan is measured by their monetary outley.
The argument that it is a business and that is just how it is is why the greatest Colt quarterback ever could very well be Peyton someday. We will just have to agree to diagree on this on.
Just out of curiousity, I wonder if there was ever anything printed in the original PSL contracts that put that weighted ratio out there or if it was something they arbitrarily came up with when they realized we were going to SB 35? If I signed the contract which specifically stated that without reading it then that is most certainly on me. If not, then I am burning my season tickets next year in protest....Not!
Re: FYI - air fares to Super Bowl
Just got my flight to Orlando and decent priced room in Lakeland, just outside of Tampa. Thank God for Rapid Rewards and HHonors points!
Chances are I wont hit the lottery, but it never hurst to plan. If I do not make it to Tampa, I am already booked to be in Baltimore for Super Bowl weekend -- win win!
I hesitate at asking this since the last response caused so much controversy, but is anyone up for a social downtown? My girlfriend and I will be in town for the Fells January Birthday Bar Crawl and I am told Shuckers will have awesome drink and eats prices.
Re: FYI - air fares to Super Bowl
If we win the SB lottery I will drive down and sleep in my car if I have to, though Amy's aunt has a place in Safety Harbor 10-15 minutes from the stadium. She is in assisted living in Hollywood now, so I don't know if we can get access.
In any case, I would drive down and stay a few hundred miles away on Saturday night to save money, then drive in Sunday morning and party all day.

Yeah, I'm guessing that crashing the assisted living facility could be a problem
EDIT: Once Monday rolls around I'm sure a discussion on accomodations will get more interesting. I'm sure there is a way a bunch of us can pool resources and save some cash. I am looking forward to that thread being created.
Re: FYI - air fares to Super Bowl
We've booked a hotel in Sarasota - about 30 mins south of Tampa. Was around $180 a night and looks quite nice.

If SB XXXV is an indicator, you won't need to sleep several hundred miles away. We stayed at Lakeland, walk up - no reservations and standard reasonable rates. There had been hundreds if motels around Orlando, same.

Remember our tailgate party discussion: you guys are probably already covered, for free. May need to bring sleeping bags if the whole tailgate crew shows up!
