i am a paying member for the 247sports boards & there is an awful lot of chatter on the texas board about john harbaugh.
where theres smoke...
here is what one insider posted an hour ago:
Interesting thread.
I have three sources tell me Saban was offered the job last night. He has thru Thursday night/Friday morning to respond.
If he declines, John Harbaugh will be the alternative. Discussions with JH have escalated recently.
Sources are feeling very confident in Saban accepting.
I can hear the Harbaugh interview now...
Reporter: John, there has been talk you would take the job with Michigan if offered, is there any truth to this?
Harbaugh: As a coach in the NFL you are always looking to get better.
Reporter: John, I'm asking if the position is appealing to you, to consider a change.
Harbaugh: I love the fans in Baltimore and my family.
Reporter: John, would you consider such change in any form or fashion?
Harbaugh: I respect the guys over there and love the fans.

means nothing. he may not have even SIGNED it yet. jimbo fisher also apparently "agreed" to an extension this morning with FL ST & hes seen as the favorite to still land the texas job.
dont get caught up in that. once saban's bowl game is over on thursday night, he could decide to bolt.
During Harbs' presser today when he was talking about coaches moving on and stuff, I couldn't help but see a tiny hint or inclination that he was referring to himself in some bits and pieces of that.
We'll see how this goes
For shits n giggles...
What if John left? What then?
Who would be able to replace him?

Bisciotti, Cass and Newsome would follow the same process used to find Harbaugh. While it would be initially shocking, I don't think the organization would panic ala the Skins when Gibbs left the second time and they had to settle on Jim Zorn.
I bet it would be another young coach with no NFL head coaching experience. Another seemingly below-the-radar guy.
Ditto on the unknown - another ST guy or something like that. Biscuit doesn't like hi profile guys like Marty Ball whom he could have had and he was Ozzie's top choice. Biscuit wants someone he can control and grow old with
like when he got HARBs to fire CAM. Yea, it was HARBs decision but everyone knows Biscuit wanted it and perhaps influenced it.
But HARBs is a merc. He loves money. Someone posted his quotes after he spoke to his business group after the SB. I asked him what his fee was. His guess was $20,000 for a 50 min talk. The agency that brought him in deals with Phil Sims who got less.
So if HARBs got $10M for 10 years I can see him taking it. Anyone would.
BTW, as far as his quotes, he told that business group that he told Pees to keep blitzing on every
play on the goal line stand at the end of the SB. He remembered the Skins and Eagles game when
they came back the same way and won it at the end. Ellerbe blitzed Kap forcing him to throw out of bounds over a well covered Crabtree but during this season Pees went back to his old ways.
MAYBE - I could somewhat see Harbs to Michigan. Don't see it to Texas.
But I have been wrong before - or maybe I am mistaken about that...
