I think that's the biggest thing which some people aren't grasping.

I believe BMoreravor already pointed this out in a recent article but the ravens could still slap the exlusive franchise tag on Flacco at the price of a non exclusive franchise tag until April 19th. Give us some more time to make a deal.
By the way I think PFT stole this story from BMoreravor:)

Maybe not- but that has nothing to do with the immediate problem.
If they don't get a contract written before the free-agency date, THEY WILL HAVE TO CUT PEOPLE TO GET UNDER THE $120 Million CAP! So regardless if Flacco PLAYS under the Franchise tag in September- it's the fact that we have to be under the salary cap come March, and his $20 Million tag value would count against the cap until a contract is resolved- the contract needs to get done before the first day of the league year if we don't want more free agents than we already have- and have to cut valuable players.
He will count as $14.6m until April 19th, at which point the Exclusive tag is calculated, and then we'd have 48 hours to fit it under that.
Not a huge difference, but one indeed. I think we have 8 days to get under the cap after the tag is first applied in the first place.
The deal will be done before March. Everyone wants to get it done sooner then later

At this point, still looks like the meat-and-potatoes of the Flacco/Ravens negotiations will start in Indy -- Next Thursday at the earliest
@dpbrugler: The #Chiefs have already paid QB Matt Cassel $40.5 million over the first three years of a six-year deal... #Mindblown
Can't really complain about flacco getting paid when you see cassel getting this much money
