Knockout Attacks Plague the Northeast
Is anyone else seeing these stories? Fucking sickening if you ask me.
Three attacks in Philly just yesterday, one yesterday in DC and a slew in NJ and NY.
Re: Knockout Attacks Plague the Northeast
Our culture is on a rocket-sled into an abyss.

I'm not so sure this is really anything different then what's happened over the course of human history. There's always been stupid people doing stupid things.

Indeed, but this kind of thing was just not part of our culture previously. It has changed immensely over the last several decades. Some for the good, most for the not good.

Has it REALLY changed? Or, are these types of things just more readily available through YouTube, Facebook, etc?

This. Violent crime is actually down compared to high points in the late 80s and early 90s. What's up is our awareness thanks to increased media presence online and the 24 hour news cycle.

I give the same response to folks who claim that gun violence is at an all time high...
No, not really...we just have access to the internet and the media is like flies on shit when anything "gun" happens.

I don't think it is the same thing. Punching people for sport isn't the kind of violent crime going on in the 80s and 90s. In any case I don't trust those numbers.

Any kind of random physical violence for shits and giggles is pretty fucked up. I agree with you on that.
However, if it were 1980 instead of 2013 and this was happening in California and you lived in Maryland...would you even know about it?
Probably not.
That's the point.
