It's completely terrible. Unless the origin of all ads appearing on the site can be guaranteed safe (they can't), I will use an ad blocker. I'm not going to risk infecting my system and waste mobile data loading even "simple" banner ads.
Yearly membership fees, poster sponsors, or static ads built into the site design are all other alternatives to earn revenue to keep the forums up and running.
