It really depends on a lot of factors, chief of which is whether Boldin and/or Jacoby are kept, but there are a lot of situations where WR becomes a need in this offseason.

Boldin will be 33 by opening day, Jacoby will be 29. Either one of them could fall off physically sooner rather than later, especially Jacoby whose game is very reliant on speed. Neither one of them are long-term guys for Joe to grow with and I honestly think Jacoby would be better if he were allowed to concentrate 100% on being a return specialist. He made good plays as a WR but expecting him to return all kicks and punts as well as be the #3 WR is too much.

Beyond the top 3 on the depth chart things are even more uncertain. Doss isn't going anywhere but he has done nothing thus far to show he shouldn't be upgraded. Streeter is 50/50 to make the roster next year and of the trio of Thompson/LaQuan/D. Reed no more than 1 or maybe none of them will probably be on the team next year. None of them are talented enough to hold off an upgrade either.

So even if the top 3 guys are all back you have a lot of age and very little young talent on the roster. If they're going to hand Flacco 20m a year, and especially if we move to more of a 2000's Colts style offense, they're going to need to get younger and more talented at WR no matter what they do. The Caldwell offense is another big X-factor here because frankly we don't have a single receiver on the roster who is a really good fit for that system, you need very precise route runners and nobody on our roster is really an elite route runner.

Cincinnati Bengals (Original Pick: Kevin Zeitler, G)
Re-do Pick: Kelechi Osemele, OL. Zeitler was more than solid for the Bengals at guard, but Osemele was a revelation of sorts for the Super Bowl champion Ravens. Taken in the second round, K.O., as they call him, started all 16 regular season games at right tackle, and then slid over to left guard in the postseason, putting together four quality games and helping cement a Baltimore offensive line that was almost flawless in the playoffs.
Don Banks Re-draft has KO to Cincy

Zeitler looks like a solid G for years to come but KO may be the more talented.

I like him, I think he's a first rounder and (spoiler alert) I'm gonna take him in the mock draft for Indy if he's still there, but IMO, Trent Richardson IS special. To me, Richardson is the best RB to come out of college since AP, without the injury concerns. I think he will have a long and successful career. He has speed, power quicknes, hands, is a HELL of a Passblocker, etc... Dude can do it all.

Lacy is more of a hammer, and IMO, less of basically everything else. Lacy is more Bernard Pierce, while Richardson is Ray Rice with more power and a smidge less shiftyness(and a much better passblocker).

Be wary of Alabama RB's, use caution. They always run behind a great oline every year. Trent Richardson is a solid back, but to me lacks break away explosiveness as Peterson had. He is nowhere near as fast as many RB's in the NFL. I never thought the Browns selecting Trent was a good pick, they should of dealt for RG3 IMO. Just about any RB will look real good behind Bama's line. The best RB, IMO to come since Peterson when drafted I thought was CJ Spiller, still feel that way. Trent to me misses that miss-ability factor and doesnt have enought juke in his repoitoire.

Trent Richardson is more of an all around type guy similar to Ray Rice, but Eddie Lacy to me is like Jamal Lewis. It doesn't matter how you scheme things, what angles you take, or what style he runs in, he's just going to run straight at you and run you over all day long. Perfect back for the AFCN.

The WR thing is interesting...We in all reality do need a guy that projects as a true #2/outside threat that can naturally separate from man coverage but i look at the needs and i struggle to find room to use an adequate draft pick(First 4 rounds) on that this year with the needs. Now depending on how free agency goes for us maybe we can, let's take a look at the needs...

For me ILB and DT are locked in as positions that have to be addressed early. With the anticipation that Kruger is gone we have to replace his pass rushing in this draft as well. Whether Ed Reed is brought back or not i think we have to draft a FS because even if Ed is back he's had injury issues, Thompson is coming off an injury, and i like Omar Brown a lot but im not sure if he's ready to make that kind of jump yet. LT is also a position i think has to be address with an heir apparent in a ideal situation.

So those are 5 spots i view as higher needs then WR. Now if we could do a lot of moving up and down the board and obtain more picks rounds 2 thru 4 then i could see it but if not i think it's gonna be difficult. Now if anybody knows any prospects rounds 5 thru 7 that have some outside WR upside who would be better then say Thompson or Streeter with a year under their belts then that's fine but that is gonna be increasingly difficult to find. I really like Ace Sanders as a 5th rd guy but his small and probably will be slot only.

Then again if a really good WR falls then Oz and Co. will take him because they dont sacrifice value very often, so all i said could have been a moot point lol

Wow...Did you guys hear Trent Dilfer said that if Glennon or Landry Jones were in the 08" draft you could make a legit case that either would go ahead of Ryan or Flacco.

And on that note respect for Dilfer as an analyst... out the window...

LOl, yeah, OK... I think you could make the case that Ryan Mallett would go #1 overall in this draft...

He said that? WOW! I usually like Trent's opinions and agree with him most of the time. I wouldnt even want Glennon to start at Maryland next year, he is hot garbage. Landry Jones is journeyman NFL backup material.

See, what I get from your post is that our needs are generally at positions where mdi round picks absolutely can succeed. ILB, DT and even Safety are not generally first round needs. LT and passrusher are. Obviously special players dictate special circumstances, but as a general rule, the first(and even second) round is littered with QB's, LT's, CB's, RB's and passrushers. Those are the best athletes with most specialized skillsets. Guards, interior Dlinemen, linebackers, safetys, TEs and FB's are just less valuable.

That's a good thing. Bu It means I don't think we need to panic if we haven't gotten a NT after the first two days.
