Sen. Rand Paul: America Needs to 'Just Apologize' to Apple for Grilling them Over Taxes

Sen Rand Paul went downright nuclear today in a Senate hearing which attemtped to call Apple on the carpet for not paying more taxes ....

“I’m offended by a government that convenes a hearing to bully one of America’s greatest success stories,” Sen. Paul (R-Ky) said during a Senate committee hearing convened to discuss Apple’s tax practices Tuesday. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook is slated to testify in the hearing.

“If anyone should be on trial here, it should be Congress," a fired up Paul told the Senate hearing.
He goes on to say it's Congress, not Apple's fault, they are not paying more in taxes thanks to an overly complicated tax system that encourages businesses to hide away money off shore.

Hard to argue the logic, IMO.

His logic is might be solid, but to call Apple "the greatest American success story" is sweeping all of Apple's faults and infringements of human rights right under the carpet. Let's ask the Chinese political prisoners what they think of Apple's products. Can Apple even be called America's company since everything but the blueprints are made past the border?

You can say similar things about almost any American company. In fact, those issues are relevant to the corporate tax issues.

What incentives do American companies have to keep their production/manufacturing in America? There really are none and they're not doing anything illegal, so what do they care? They're goal is to turn the largest profit possible while staying within the confines of the law.

Ethics do not always equal legality, unfortunately.
