Bears Sam Hurd arrested for drug trafficking

Seems like Sam wasn't happy with the millions the NFL gave him, so he tried to be kingpin on the side. He allegedly supplied other NFL players as well. Uh oh.

Hurd, the Bears’ receiver who was arrested by federal agents today when he allegedly tried to acquire 5-10 kilos of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana – PER WEEK – with the intent to distribute, was apparently one of the “top few” drug dealers in the city of Chicago, a drug enforcement officer told 670 the Score.

The radio station is also hearing that officials have acquired a list of NFL players who got their drugs from Hurd, and it’s in the “double digits.”

According to the complaint, Hurd told an undercover operative that he wanted up to 10 kilograms of cocaine and a half ton of marijuana per week "for distribution in the Chicago area."

Hurd told the undercover that he was willing to pay $25,000 per kilo of cocaine and $450 per pound for the marijuana, the document states.

According to the document, Hurd also told the undercover in Chicago that:

...his co-conspirator is in charge of doing the majority of the deals as HURD focuses on the "higher-end" deals. HURD subsequently inquired if the UCA (undercover operative) and the CI (confidential informant involved in the case) could provide him with Mexican cellular telephones, as HURD believed that law enforcement did not have the capability of "listening" to Mexican telephones.

The complaint alleged that Hurd first came to the attention of federal authorities in July when the confidential informant tipped off agents that a man -- later learned to be a Hurd associate -- was attempting to coordinate the purchase of about four kilograms of cocaine in the Dallas area. The associate wanted to complete the deal that day so the buyer could transport the cocaine to a northern destination that same day, authorities charged.

At the direction of authorities, the informant met with the Hurd associate. After the meeting, Dallas County police conducted a traffic stop of the Hurd associate and recovered $88,000 in cash and a marijuana plant.

Hurd, who owned the vehicle pulled over by police, later reached out to federal agents and claimed that he had placed the $88,000 into the vehicle and then turned over the vehicle to the associate -- who worked at a car repair shop -- for maintenance and detailing work, according to the charges.

Hurd produced a bank statement that he said showed he had withdrawn the $88,000 from his account, but authorities said the statement did not reflect that size of a withdrawal.
    Here are the charging documents..

    What a complete moron.

If his purpose was to be some sort of kingpin, he went about it the wrong way. Sounds like from these articles he was talking to anyone and everyone about his intentions.

Detective McNulty would be very disappointed in him, that's for sure.

With the minimum wage that is offered by the NFL, and the likelihood that he made a little more than that, Hurd could have retired after a decent five year career if he handled his money properly.

I hope there aren't any Ravens on that list.

You don't even know the half of it. He gave his boy 88k for 4 kilos, and he drove down there from Chicago to Dallas to pick up the stuff. It was a complete setup with the informant that they were talking to the whole time.

They pull him over in Dallas, interview him and what not seize the cash and then cut him loose. These idiots think that they just randomly got pulled over and don't make the connection that it was a setup all the way. Hurd goes and tries to get the money back, saying he just keeps it in his car for whatever and his boy was just detailing it...in Dallas!

So they say show us bank statements where you withdrew the money, he gives them the statements that show no withdrawal. Meanwhile this whole time they are building a case and this is just the first step.

They go back to the same guy (informant) and tell him they need more because of what happened with the cash. Then Hurd actually goes and meets with the FBI agents the informant set him up with and that is where they take him down.

How stupid can you possibly be. They didn't just "happen" to pull your boy over when he just "happened" to have 88k on him going to pick up drugs. Get a clue. Pure greed.

He is probably going to get about 10 years.

And it's a federal charge so no parole and you're going to do at least 80% of the time guaranteed.

Funny thing though. Been sitting here watching ESPN while recouping from pneumonia. Don't know if my drugs are messing with me but not a word about it on Sportscenter yet.

EDIT: Looks like they added it to the 6:00 pm Sportscenter on ESPN2.

EDIT again: Well, they had in that upcoming bar on the left of the screen then they skipped right over it and went to the Paul trade.

Detective McNulty would be disappointed? Avon Barksdale would be even more disappointed. Hurd didn't put any middle men in there at all. No Stringer, no Slim Charles, no D'Angelo, nothing.

What happened to owning car dealerships or sandwich chains?

    UP TO 40 years.

He isn't getting anything remotely close to that being a first timer.
