With everybody starting to see some faults with the coaching staff, here is some food for thought...

The 2 years out of the past 5 years where we are considered one of the best teams in the nfl('08/'11), what was the one constant that we had?

    Great coaching.

Rex Ryan + Chuck Pagano respectively. We had enough talent to keep the defense relevant for 09/10, but when we had a good coach at the helm, look at the results.

Our offense has been mediocre and a big liability for 5 years.

what was/is the one constant here?

    Cam Cameron

Same can be said here. We have more than enough talent on offense in order to stay relevant, but what will it take to become elite?

Ill just leave the rest to your imagination...

Combination of middling talent, mediocre coaching & coordination, filling the back end of the roster with ST specialists who aren't very good as position backups, and a head coach who's allergic to risk & terrified of taking any sort of chance until his back is to the wall. A boatload of good luck has managed to hide the weakenesses behind a 9-3 record, but the chickens are coming home to roost & every team left on the schedule must be licking its chops.

it's not just great coaching, but also the draft/free agent signings/players leaving/injuries. It's extremely difficult to field a team that is dominating on BOTH offense and defense and is that way ALL season long. IMO the patriots havent won a SB since they had a dominating defense, even when it seems like they score at will. someone on the Sun forum I think even put up Brady's stats from that era and compared them to Flacco's and they were if Im not mistaken quite close. Were only into our 2nd season with a real legit speed receiver but at the cost of a worse/aging Offensive Line compared to when Gaither was healthy and a young defense that have been plugged in to make up for veterans like Jarret Johnson and Cory Redding and injuries to Webb. Do people think Jah reid is a bust yet? Cam's system was good enough to put up enough points and win on every playoff team last year and was a dropped pass from the super bowl. it's not like the Jets where once the Dominating defense left, the wheels completely came off the bus.

I think that other folks (may have been Cap'n Silver) have said that John Harbaugh isn't an X's and O's guy at all, so he leaves a lot of it up to his coordinators...

Now, when his coordinator was Chuck Pagano, it wasn't a big deal. However, leaving the game plan up to Cam Cameron obviously is a big deal.

    :word

Does anyone here really believe Harbaugh and Cam could have gone into Heinz Field with Tyrod Taylor or Curtis Painter at quarterback and beat a Roethlisberger led Steelers squad intent on sewing up the division early?
