Nfl Backs Up Bad Call To Give Steelers Win And Division Title

    http://www.profootball24x7.com/colum...8&view=archive

No one who watches that YesMan on the Total Access should be surprised that Mike Peirra backed up Walt Coleman's decision to claim undisputable evidence on the ball crossing the plane on Sunday. He is the same guy who said that the Patriots reciever had control of the TD pass against us last year, claiming you could see contact on the ball with the reciever's fingertips????

So here's the deal, the world isn't fair, and neither is the NFL, as a matter of fact it is corrupt, yes I said corrupt. If you don't believe me tell me why they run an expansion bid 14 years ago and award the cities with the 4th and 5th best bids with new franchises?

Tell me why they have pulled teams back out on the field to kick extra points when time has already run out and the winning team is already up ( no need for the extra point except for gambling). Tell me why the league strictly prohibits and gambling ties by ownership, but the Rooneys are part owners in a casino.

Tell me why Jerry Jones can get Pacman back in the league after strike 17, tell me why the Redskins get 4 out of 5 home games against the Ravens......

Tell me why the league allowed the officials to break the rules when we played Cleveland and review a non-reviewable field goal, when they should have told the officials on the field to get off the phone, you can't overturn it, no matter how bad a call it was.

There have been way too many instances to look the other way, and not just in Baltimore, but it is a great sport and I love it. But it is not perfect, and it is without a doubt corrupt.

Of course they're gonna back up their guys. The only way they wouldn't is in super-blatant-obvious situations like the Hocculi missed call where there's simply no defense. It's a simple case of their manager going to bat for their employees, and it's gonna happen 100% of the time.

Look at it this way. Billick did it with our players before the Superbowl in 2000. He took a ton of heat off our guys and stuck it on himself. Would you rather he NOT have done that?

We all know it was a bullshit overturn. No one should be surprised that the head of officiating is going to bat for his ref in public.

Most likely the NFL will have a "rule change" (as in tuck rule) the way it was stated after the replay.

"The receiver had possesion of the ball with two feet in the end zone."

Duh!!.....the ball has to break the plane which it did not! No mention of that part, especially since it was called down at the 1 inch line by the zebra on the field.

I can tell you that this play, the original call, and reverse will be a reoccurring topic this season, and going into next year.

No way in hell could anyone looking at the play even in super-slo-mo call that "irrefutable".

Guess we got the Seattle treatment.

I realize this isn't an official source or anything, but what does everything make of this: http://blog.pengoworks.com/index.cfm...e-NFL-Rulebook

    Rule 11 Scoring
    Section 2 Touchdown
    Article 1 It is a touchdown (3-38):

    (a) when a runner advances from the field of play and the ball touches the opponents’
    goal line (plane); or
    (b) while inbounds any player catches or recovers a loose ball (3-2-3) on or behind the
    opponents’ goal line.

Notice that the rule says as long as "player" is on or behind the opponents goal line, it's a touchdown. There's nothing in the rule book that says the ball must break the plane on a catch. It specifically states this is the case for a "runner", but in the case of a receiver it states "any player catches or recovers a loose ball on or behind the opponents' goal line."

I take the last part (B) as the BALL on or behind the goal line, not the player.

You are mis-reading this. Player is not the key word here. The key word is BALL on or behind the opponents' goal line.

Jesus people it was the correct call.

Look, when a receiver catches the ball on the side or back of the goal, it still counts even when the ball does not ever truly cross the goal line in the players possession.

Same applies with the front of the goal. We would want the same call 100 times out of 100.

You're all arguing as if it was a rushing TD where the ball does indeed have to cross the plane.

but that is past the "plane" which extends out of bounds. The ball STILL has to break the plane.

I'm not realy interested in this debate, but there are separate rules to scoring TDs when you rush as there are to when you pass? That's ridiculous. What happens if a RB gets their feet in the endzone but the ball doesn't cross the line? Unlikely scenario, but what then?

It should be quite simple. Possession of the ball, ball crossed the goalline.

Again, you're applying a rushing TD standard to a receiving TD standard.

The way I read the rule is that if you're rushing with the ball, all the ball has to do is break the plane of the goal line. If it's a receiving TD, ball has to be in control, with two feet in bounds.

Either way, the larger picture is allowing them to march 92 yards down field.

i agree with this part, but like they say....Football is a game of inches. IMO...they did not get that last inch, but it was given to them.

They could have been on the 8 yd line by an interception, punt return, or any way other than driving 92 yds. Yes, i would like that to happen our way if it was Mason on the catch, but knowing the NFL and Baltimore we know the outcome.
