probably just a depth move. At Rutgers he played DE. He is a high motor but undersized DE. The Patriots actually used him at TE in the preseason. He caught a couple passes including a TD and actually looked good.

Maybe a bigger, athletic Body for STs? Probably a bit more useful that Dixon was or ever will be.

They do not do a good job of drafting productive uber athletic TEs. Todd Heap was the closest thing to it. It's been Pitta, Sypniewski (Who couldn't stay healthy).

Dickson's lack of hands has really been a downer.

Well we already played them, so this isn't a Billicheat pick an opponents playbook through a former member.

We have experience with a LB turned TE turned FB and IIRC Edgar Jones is still in the league.
I don't know what the FO is thinking or envisioning, but they liked something enough to bring him cheaply into the fold for a closer look, releasing QB Dennis Dixon....
just add him to the list with Michael McAdoo, Adrian Hamilton
IMO we are stockpiling training camp competition with his signing at the minimum, and need a true insider to tell us anything more specific than that at this time.

Teams make PS moves all season. No big deal

Dickson hasnt had really any trouble this year with drops. Or I cant remember any besides 1. We really need to get our 2 TE sets going more often. We need crossing patterns and a few TE screens with dickson. They did combine for about 1k yards and 8 TDs last season.

Exactly. It's a PS signing, BFD.

PS transactions aren't always about signing player with potential to ever make the team. It's often about helping the team practice and having the right players at the right spot to practice the way the team wants to. After all, PS is referred to as the "practice" squad for a reason.

    He's listed at 6-foot-3, 267-pounds.
You think he could be effective as an OLB/DE hybrid type?
Maybe as a 3rd down pass rush specialist?

Or at least be an upgrade over Dickson? (better hands)
