Re: With Suggs back, can our defense get back to being effective?
It will hopefully help the OLB situation in general though. With Suggs and Upshaw as potential starters it at least allows us to kick Kruger back to passrushing specialist which may help his productivity. How about McLellan inside instead of McClain?

His salary was guaranteed week one.
No sense in cutting him now unless you can replace him with a better player.
And my lame answer to the OP... maybe? It will still require growth and improvement from a half dozen youngsters. Perhaps theincreased attention paid to Suggs' side may help in that regard.

That article explains why Suggs is such a beast and will help the Ravens D a ton.

Re: With Suggs back, can our defense get back to being effective?
As long as the front 7 is getting dominated like they are, no. Suggs is the only guy at this point that I think we can count on beating his man.
Even Ngata can't do it consistently because of his injuries.Although Walsh's system of offense can compensate for lack of talent; however, defense is a different story. According to Walsh, talent on defense was essential and could not be compensated for. What did Walsh do in 1981? He acquired physical and talented players on defense.

Re: With Suggs back, can our defense get back to being effective?
Great stuff!!
A lot of people talked about how the Ravens miss the pass rush from Suggs, and though they unquestionably do, he is comfortably their best run defender as well. You can’t block Suggs with a player who isn’t an offensive lineman. He is too strong to be dealt with by backs or tight ends and will simply throw them aside on his way to making the stop. The Texans actually did what you would want them to do, and lined up an extra offensive tackle to Suggs’ side — and not a bad one at that — but Suggs still beat him with a combination of speed and power as if he wasn’t even there.
The Ravens will be thankful to have Suggs back for his pass rush, but he’ll make a huge impact to their ailing run defense as well. He is the complete package at defensive end, with the intelligence, quickness and strength to make plays in a variety of ways.Follow me on Twitter! https://twitter.com/#!/thenflanalyst

Re: With Suggs back, can our defense get back to being effective?
Agree. Our front 7 = a recovering Suggs, a Ngata who might be starting to break down physically, and absolutely on one else who worries any OC. Great to see Upshaw progressing, but Cody, Kemo, McPhee, Kruger, Jones, and (maybe) McLain are regressing. Looking forward to us (barely) making the post-season, then sacrificing young goats (can't find many virgins around here) in hopes of a great draft

Re: With Suggs back, can our defense get back to being effective?
Not sure where all the Ngata breaking down comments are coming from. He's been double teamed in every game so far this year, but as still had 4 sacks, and is on pace for 8 sacks or more this year. He's had a limp through the past few weeks, but I think he'll be healthy again after the bye, don't think it's anything significant to worry about. There were some rumours that he'd sprained his MCL after the Cowboys game which was complete BS.

Re: With Suggs back, can our defense get back to being effective?
Through the first few games he would have been talked about as a potential DPOY, if it wasn't for JJ Watt's flat out domination of the league.
I think the talks come from this being his second consecutive year with nicks that haven't removed him from action but have slowed him some. It happens. He's stillthe best inside D lineman in football, bar none.

Getting Suggs back and forcing Offenses to account for him with a Tackle and Double-Teams can only be a positive for the Defense.
