    Brees Breaks Unitas' Record

He's thrown a TD pass in 50 consecutive games. Awesome feat, but it makes what Unitas did all that more incredible, considering how long it took for it to be surpassed, especially in today's pass happy NFL.

Unitas established the record when they played "real" football. Brees broke the record in an era where the NFL was engaged playing some sort of non contact cross between volleyball and basketball. If Brees had to play the game the way Unitas had to play it he would have never gotten close.

Agreed 100%. No way he sniffs the record if he played in that era. Hell, Montana, Elway or Marino couldn't do it.

What bugs me most was last year trailing the WINLESS Rams by 17 on 4th down with 8 seconds left in the game he threw a TD. Why is he in the game? Plus, afterward did a fistpump! Could you imagine Unitas doing that in a loss on the last play of a blowout to a 0-7 Ram team? Brees is pussy.

He's at 44 straight games right now. Still has 4 more to go to break it.

He got what he deserved today - a LOSS

So right now he's tied with Favre the only QB who came close.

He's in the game because he has a chance to break a record. Pretty simple concept, and coaches do it all the time if a guy is close to a milestone, regardless of the score. This is not a bad thing.

Some of you guys act as if it is a slap in the face to Baltimore if someone breaks a record by Unitas (or any other Baltimore-associated record). It's not. Most people understand the differences in football over time and in different eras. If Brees breaks a Unitas record, it doesn't diminish what Unitas did. In fact, it puts Unitas into the spotlight again. There are a lot of football fans who have never heard of guys who played in the 60s, 70s, or even the 80s. Now they have that chance.

I also agree with this quote. Plus I believe one of the reasons rookie qbs are having so much success is because of these rule changes that make it difficult for a defense to
    play "real" football!
