Brownlee is expected to compete next at the San Diego World Triathlon Series event in May.

Malcolm Brown, one of Brownlee's personal coaches and British Triathlon's Olympic performance group manager, said: "Alistair has a small tear in his left Achilles tendon and is wearing an air cast as a precaution.

"He is swimming every day, and will train on a static bike today. He has been doing some light running, but now that he's wearing the cast, we will allow the Achilles to repair before resuming light running again, hopefully within the next 10 days.
    Apples and oranges.

Keep looking. I mean the internet has everything documented in the world for the last 10 years or so, so surely you can find at least ONE person out of the hundreds of athletes who have suffered this injury.

    Or maybe not.

Go find me someone if you don't believe it. Anyone, any sport. Never happened.

While you are at it google NFL players achilles tear and see what comes up. Look at how long it was from the injury date until they got back. It was 8-10 months in every single case, and there were plenty to choose from. (I think I found about 10 or so when I looked before)

And we went over this before in another thread, there is no difference in a full or partial tear. It is the same surgery to fix it, same recovery time. A long time.

The best case scenario is he comes back for the last couple games and playoffs, but then the question is how effective is he going to be?? No contact, no real football action for 8 months just running in shorts.

Anything we get from Suggs this year is gravy. If you expect anything substantial you are just setting yourself up for a letdown.

Maybe he will defy all odds, and become the first person on the earth to miraculously recover in a time that was before not humanly possibly. I mean it could happen I guess, and I would love to be wrong but the odds of that are slim.
Former Raven Wally Williams did it, so it is possible. (http://articles.baltimoresun.com/201...chilles-tendon )

    Good catch, nice work.

Williams, though, was an offensive lineman. Suggs is an outside linebacker/defensive end. There is more change of direction needed for pass rushing specialists like Suggs, who has 82.5 career sacks.

He has to come hard off the corner because power and quickness in that first step is a major advantage. Last year, Suggs had a career-high 14 sacks and was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year.

    Can he regain that form?

"I was a quick, fast guard and I had a strong lower power game," Williams said. "With the injury, I thought all of that had been compromised. I actually came back and was on the scout team a month before I started the first game."
That is still 1 out of hundreds, if not more.

So we have found one remarkable, best case scenario and it still took 6.5 months to return. Not to mention the fact that on Oline you aren't driving into opponents pushing off, you are keeping them at bay with your footwork for the most part.

    Anyone else?

Didn't Demaryius Thomas completely tear his Achilles in 2011, but was activated in September 2011? I know that it took him a while to get up to full speed, but it didn't stop him from making that huge run against the Steelers in the play offs.

That was 7 months of recovery for Thomas, and that was with a full tear, and everything I'm reading about partial tears, nearly all the research is telling me 4-6 months until you can get back to competing again. It's around 3 months to get back to normal activity.

Okay, my wife former professional ballerina (top of her game) and has seen her fair share of Achilles tears. She is now a massage therapist and has worked on many people who have had the injury. I asked her her opinion on this, I should have asked her sooner.

She said a partial tear is far better to have than a full for obvious reasons, but primarily because the length of the tendon and ability for the muscle to stretch will not be compromised after the surgery. The area will heal and perform much the way it did. Additionally, it will heal faster.

Now all you guys can post all the links you want and post ghost doctor reports till the cows come home, but she said Suggs should be fully recovered in 6-8 months and I believe her. Judging by his athletic prowess and conditioning, she believes he would be ready on the lower end of that spectrum, if not before, but do to the nature of the game and getting in football shape, the time table of November is likely accurate.

November would be a bonus. If he could get some games under his belt before Pittsburgh, that would be great.

You're right..... you should have asked her sooner :)

Anytime in November would be great. One thing about Suggs is that he is going to be working his ass off to get back in there. Whatever rehab he has to go through he's going to give 110% doing it.

Whether it is Albert McClellan or Courtney Upshaw who is the starter, both that person and Kruger will be taking more snaps than they are accustomed to. Having Suggs back late in the season could really help, in the case that one of them needs more of a breather.

I heard his ankle fell off. Could be a bad source though.
