Ravens backup RB situation is shaky
You may recall that following Lewis’ successful rookie campaign, the Ravens parted ways with the very capable Priest Holmes who wanted a chance to start. Clearly that wasn’t going to happen in Baltimore so Holmes, packed his bags and said, “I’m going to Kansas City.”
With no Priest to turn to, the Ravens prayed that they might somehow get production from a scrap heap collection of backs, the “best” of which were a battered Terry Allen and an overweight Jason Brookins.
Do the Ravens have an adequate backup now to avert a similar near disastrous situation?

Hopefully Pierce gets back to the practice field today! Need to see what this guy can do.

Re: Ravens backup RB situation is shaky
Pierce can be the 3rd guy. The problem is that rookie runningbacks take a long time to learn how to pass block. If Pierce misses camp you really don't want to see him except for short yardage situations in a game until you are certain he can protect Flacco. Chipping a blitzing player in the open field is really difficult. AA isn't going to make the team after how bad he was in that game. It's time to cut bait and bring in Ryan Grant. Now that Benson is going to Green Bay the next name guy to get signed will be Grant. The Ravens need to make sure they're the team that gets him.

Re: Ravens backup RB situation is shaky
Agreed with Gota. The Ravens will be foolish not to at least give Ryan Grant a call, he may not be what he was in 09, but at this point he's a lot better than any other options we have right now behind Rice. Bobby Rainy looked good against a bunch of second/third stringers, but lets not forget that he's also an undrafted rookie, and still needs time to develop as a player before we even consider letting him back Rice up playing against first string defenses.
This needs to get done, so I can sleep better at night. I need these flashing images of Rice going down hurt to go away, AA running the ball for 1 yard gains against the Steelers, yikes.

Re: Ravens backup RB situation is shaky
A decent backup RB is pretty easy to find on the street if they do not find one in camp. If Rice goes down though our SB chances go way down.

Re: Ravens backup RB situation is shaky
Well Pierce appears to be back in camp. The Ravens are probably waiting for the 1st rounds of cuts, especially for players the scouting dept may have had their eyes on coming out of college. Is that next cut after this game?
OT: Also Burress in NE for a tryout per reports. Like Brady needs another weapon.
