    So is Adderall like Ritalin?
Doesn't make sense his doctor would prescribe it if it's banned by the NFL.

This is a situation where it is Haden's responsibility to get the prescription approved by the league. It sounds like he did not and failed a test for it.

    So is Ritalin.
I just remember years ago a friends brother was taking Ritalin for hyperactivity, I guess now they use Adderall.
Haden must not have had a prescription.
Nascar's A.J. Allmendinger got popped for the same thing, said a friend gave him an "energy pill" :0)

It's also the most commonly prescribed ADHD medication these days. I was on it for years in college. If you need it, it doesn't get you high, it calms you down and allows you to focus.

Kind of like Ritalin. Adderall is a blend of Amphetamine and D-Amphetamine.
Most scripts I have seen were written for children with ADDH/ADHD/ADD, rarely one for an adult but certainly possible.
My guess would be the Rx wasn't written for him, but we have to wait until details leak out....all we know for sure is a failed test and the drug ID'd.

Yes it is used for ADDH/ADHD/ADD and is a frequently abused drug believe it or not. It has a very strong amphetamine effect on people who take it and do not have one of the conditions for which it is prescribed. It's the same drug that AJ Allmendinger the Nascar driver was suspended for taking.....hmmmmm wonder if they know one another lol

Haden will end up appealing like they all do and play both games against us.

So, why is adderall a banned substance if it is prescribed by a physician?

That just seems dumb to me. Now, if they test for adderall and they DONT have a prescription for it, then I can see the violation.

I believe the issue is he didn't get league approval first.

And because this is a suspension, this is infraction number two for him.

True. You don't get 4 games for breaking the substance abuse policy the first time. That's the second punishment. Do it again and it's a year.

I thought I read that first offense under the drug testing policy was 4 weeks suspension.
Second 8 weeks and third a year?

Re: OT: CB Joe Haden facing 4-game suspension

So doing a quick check maybe the 4 games because it's considered a "performance-enhancing" drug as stated on this article about Giants' Tyler Sash getting busted for the same thing.

"On Tuesday, the N.F.L. suspended Sash for the first four games of the season for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances."

    http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2...or-four-games/

I also noticed that a couple players have had the suspension reduced in this article about Steeler's Weslye Saunders.

    http://www.timesonline.com/sports/st...medium=twitter

"“I’m hopeful Commissioner (Roger) Goodell will lighten up on me,” said Saunders, who claims he didn’t know Adderall was illegal in the eyes of the NFL.

In May, Giants running back Andre Brown had his four-game suspension for using Adderall lifted. And Texans punter Brett Hartmann, who also tested positive for Adderall, had his four-game suspension reduced to three games."
