AFC North News - Browns to be Sold?

Lot of rumors that one of the minority owners of the Steelers is looking to buy the Browns. The Ravens and Steelers might actually get some competition if that happens. Their current owner only cares about soccer. He didn't want the team but inherited it from his father. A new owner in Cleveland could have a huge impact on the Ravens.

    I read this too.

    Interesting.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new owner comes in and cleans major house.

Given Lerner's quotes, sounds like he's looking for an investor, not an outright buyer.

Agree with Houston, it sounds more like an investor buying into the team. Now how much of the team he buys, that is the question.

I liked the comments below the article. One poster wants them to change the name to the Cleveland Dawgs/Dogs, to remove the stigma of "Browns".

Good idea. If it were to happen, the Plain Dealer should have a name-the-team contest similar to what the Sun did to name our team the Ravens (Instead of Bombers, Americans, Rhinos, or other ridiculous choices). I would vote for the Cleveland Pixie Elves, using their existing logo: browns thumbnail.aspx.jpeg
In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

I would laugh my ass off, if they were sold outright....and moved to L.A. I am a hateful prick though.

This is good news for Cleveland.... and good news for the Ravens.

The Browns are already placing themselves in a position to be competitive on the football field. Now, they'll get an owner who makes sure that staph germs are laying around on in the medical facilities.

As for the impact on the Ravens, the Browns are the major reason why the AFC North isn't considered the premier division in the NFL. New owner + increased competitiveness = more viewership by the NFL, at large, and a hypercompetitiveness within the division.

Now somebody find a new owner for the Bengals, and this division will eclipse the NFC East as the predominant division in football (which, in my opinion, they are just because of the Ravens :))
After 5 years of early exits, the journey is finally complete.

I heard, I won't tell my secret source, that the prospective new owner already has Phil Savage (GM) and Butch Davis (HC) lined-up ... Bc
