    NFL to be banned?

First Big Gulp was banned in NY so don't be surprised if they go after the NFL and soon.

Pro football players have something in common with smokers: they do something that is dangerous to their health.

NFL is the most popular sport. Even its off season is more news worthy with the Saints bounty scandal.

Now lawyer types are comparing the NFL to
Big Tobacco and how dangerous it is to their health.

Rush might be on to something here.

The game is portrayed as something deadly that players are risking their lives every time they put on the uniform to take the field. As an ardent football fan, this is different. And now the NFL compared to Big Tobacco.

    Re: NFL to be banned?

And it wouldn't be the first time someone tried to ban it.

Back in the early 1900s several states wanted to ban football because there were too many deaths and severe injuries.

In 1905, 18 college players died. There was no NFL and no rules
or regulations. Goodell would have had a field day back then
    with his Brady rules.

Harvard led the fight and came this close to banning football.

The deaths were considered a national disgrace.

Even the tough guy and original rough rider himself, President Teddy Roosevelt entertained thoughts of introducing legislation to ban it. The injuries were too much for him to take but he loved football even though he never played it. He used his powerful negotiating skills to call all its leaders into the WH for a meeting and these changes were made.

Rugby-style mass formations, and gang tackling, were outlawed; the distance needed for a first down was changed from five yards to ten, which made it essential to come up with plays that didn't necessarily go straight through the center of the line; a neutral zone was instituted at the line of scrimmage; and -- most important -- a new kind of play was put into the rulebook:
    The forward pass.
"It revolutionized the game," Miller said. "It spread out the action. It opened up the field." Football became more thrilling to watch; the college game boomed, the NFL was born.

    The President who saved football.

    Horse shit.

It'll never happen. They can bitch and moan all they want and compare it to tobacco companies, but guess what? You and I can still walk our 'Merican asses over to the 7-11 and pick up a pack of Marlboro's.

Also, Rugby isn't popularized like the NFL, but it is still alive and prevalent throughout the United States. There is even a national rugby team that competes in the Olympics and on the international level. I played on a travel Rugby team in college and we played lots of other club teams sponsored by colleges and institutions...including a Harvard team and a Princeton team.

That's what we said about mandated health
    care.

These liberals get what they want now, especially with all the pussy Rhinos in congress and on SCOTUS that allows it to happen.

If someone wants the NFLs ass, he'll get it.
Not today or tomorrow or next week but whenever the libs get full control of congress and the WH again - if they want to ban it.

Liberals need their money too and don't think for a second that there aren't powerful people in DC that don't have connections to NFL revenues at some point.
