The drug treatment is intended to suppress sexual impulses and does not require the convict's consent.

A law authorizing this treatment for sex offenders came into effect last year. It followed a public outcry after a number of cases were reported of rapists reoffending following their release.

I have next to no sympathy for sex offenders, especially repeat offenders.

This was tried in a few states here and was abandoned because it didn't work for the most part.

The overriding compulsion is about power, not sexual urges.

Personally, I think we should put to death anyone who rapes or molests a child. It's been pretty clear these psychos can't be treated and the damage they cause is something their victims pay for for decades.

I tend to agree. My first reaction when I hear a news story of child molestation is "kill em".
