Re: NFL going up in smoke?
Wow, I fully expected to read the comments and see a bunch of people freaking out over this "revelation" that NFL players smoke pot. I'm impressed that people seem pretty level-headed around these parts!
I just had minor (super minor) surgery for the first time, and they prescribed me some opiate-based pain killers. I've never had pain killers before and... wow. That stuff is scary. First off, it _actually_ worked to get rid of the pain, so it was like a dream come true from that perspective. But... it also seemed to get rid of all of my pain - like anything that would normally bother me or make me angry... it didn't matter. And it worked so well that I was afraid of these pills. I only took them three times (when the pain was bad), but even after those three times I was freaked out by how good these magic pills were. I'm just glad I didn't need to be on them any longer, because getting off them would have been rough.
So, with that said, toke up Ravens - just stay off those opiates.

Re: NFL going up in smoke?
Ricky Williams said he got tested like 3 or 4 times a month and had other restrictions on him also, right up until he retired, again...
If the NFL would start banning players for good, no matter how high profile they are, then you would see it disappear quickly...Most of the players in the league would be making less than 60 G's a year if it wasn't for the NFL...So "man up" and abide by the rules or keep steppin' , is what I would tell them..

Re: NFL going up in smoke?
I just want to weigh in on the idiotic nature of weed being illegal. I personally am not a participant, but I know many who do and they are some of the chillest people I know in comparison to some idiot that just drank a six pack of beer.
Fact is, weed becomes legal and half the people who use it will grow it and that is more money than the alcohol and tax revenue consortium wants to give away for free.
Always ask yourself, when a plant, a weed, indigenous to this country is banned, is because it is for your "own good" or is it because someone is going to lose money?

Re: NFL going up in smoke?
Well said cap'n! Lotteries were illegal until the gov't could make money squeezing $ from people who could least afford it. Same goes for casino gambling in some states. "They" will legalize weed when it can be profitable (likely for tobacco companies if cigarette money dries up). Uncle Sam's hypocrisy continues... Bc
P.S. - Let us not forget about Prohibition too.

Re: NFL going up in smoke?
What do you mean you have it on "good authority"? I honestly dont know what that means....does it mean it is your strong opinion? Or does it mean you have heard something from a source close to the situation?
Reed has always come off as a pretty unique character when you listen to him talk. I would not be suprised one bit if he smokes a lot of weed. But to think he might be bipolar...and considering what he has accomplished....that would be absolutely amazing, imo.
I have seen first hand how devestating of a condition it is...i just have a hard time seeing somebody put in a HOF career while suffering from that. If true, ed reed's legacy becomes 10x more impressive, imo.

Re: NFL going up in smoke?
Shas doesn't toss around insider knowledge often enough for me to think he's doing it for attention, and Ed Reed's behavior is at best "mercurial." I think he's probably right on this one.
There are some high functioning bi-polars out there, they use their manic stages to great effect, being highly productive and tirelessly focused on the upswing, and then just kind of coast through the low times. I have a relative who's like that, dude makes more money than god in a highly competitive field because he can medicate to minimize his low periods. It wouldn't shock me if Ed does something similar and then takes a break from the meds in the offseason when he can slack off a bit. (I assume he's taking a break from his meds because a lot of the people with bi-polar who I've dealt with dislike their meds because they don't just reduce the lows, they also level off the highs somewhat, some of those folks only really feel good when their in their manic phase.)My motto was always to keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging. -Hank Aaron

Nothing new.
When I was a kid in the 70's i remember all the guys on the neighborhood sandlot team routinely passing a joint around in the huddle.
When Johnny U went to San Diego he said most of the Charger players were a bunch of hop heads.
Football players come to the NFL right after college right? Most folks not named Bill Clinton either inhaled MJ in college or were around somebody who did lol.Twenty years of Cheers.
Thanks Baltimore Ravens Fans - You're the Best!
