Laquan had a couple really big catches in crucial points of big games, but he simply did not get enough time/targets for me to say, either way, whether he could handle a full-time 3rd WR role (which, on the Ravens, isn't a huge role anyway).
Im not looking at a stat sheet but i can only remember him being targeted around 10 times at the most and maybe only 3 of those being drops? 9 drops seems like a lot, and with drops its difference of opinion on what is and isnt considered one, hard stat to cross reference.

That's funny; I was thinking the exact same thing. I'm not the least bit enthusiastic about this move, unlike the Lee Evans signing last year. But since I'm wrong more often than right (and a look at my past stock market moves will bear this out), I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Since I just predicted yesterday that the Ravens wouldn't sign Jones, his signing more or less became ineveitable. As others have said, let's wait until the contract fine print becomes public, but on the surface this seems to be a questionable use of the Ravens limited funds. And I agree this means we won't see David Reed, at least for the first six weeks of the season and maybe never again. But I sure hope Tandon Doss sees actual playing time this year.

You've hit it dead on. The coaching staff knows what the young WRs have to offer and it's quite likely they just aren't ready yet (if ever). Do we need to be reminded that MANY young WRs have failed to develop here? Why will this bunch be better? Not a great move, but OK. Biggest bennie IMHO is that we don't risk Webb returning punts. Jacoby COULD pay for himself on STs.

It was pretty obvious that the team was lying about how great the developmental WRs are.

I never thought a signing like this would create 5 pages of arguments lol...1) Jones drastically improves the return game 2) Keeps our 50 million dollar corner from returning punts 3) Though he inconsistent as a WR he does offer a downfield element and depth at the position

Imo he wont be the 3rd WR, i think Doss wins the job but if Jones does beat him out i could see him getting about 3 to 5 TD's from the deep ball, couple that with hsi threat as a returner and i say its a win

Why are they waiting now then to sign a WR? I don't even remember any wide receivers visiting the team at the start of free agency. I have no problem with bringing in a veteran for the position. I just don't understand the timing. There were a lot of guys on the market and we didn't seem interested in any of them. Now in a thin market we jump on a guy who has been very disappointing everywhere but special teams. The timing is just weird.

Trust me, our young guys are still the front runners for that 3rd WR spot.

I agree with this snipped portion of your post.

I don't get this at all, especially for the money. This offseason so far has the feel of a team that's just collecting bodies, with no rhyme or reason. I get that he allegedly returns kicks, and theoretically can catch the ball. Him and fifty million other guys.

Reeks of being a "panic buy." What was the problem he was supposed to solve? Replacing Evans as the overpaid crappy veteran WR?

I'm with you on those kinds of thoughts, adding 2 quotes from the Aaron Wilson Article on the front ticker here

The Texans cut Jones last week months after he muffed a punt during an AFC divisional playoff loss to the Ravens that led to a Baltimore touchdown. Jones became unpopular in Houston after fumbling twice in that game.
along with this from the same AW article

The 6-foot-2, 212-pound former Texans third-round draft pick should boost a kick return game that struggled last year as David Reed fumbled twice in one game,
That logic is worthy of at least Chico Marx, maybe even Groucho

I like the signing since it fills a need.

But it's a problem for me based on value. That's a lot of money for someone who will be a return specialist and a part-time WR.

How easy is it for the Ravens to get out of this deal? Can they cut him if Doss or whoever beats him out for the third wr spot?
