Yes TJFS, and we needed him. The team wanted a veteran presence (5 years with Houston, will be 28 in July 2012) who could cover two bases. Kick returns and 3rd WR (127 recpts / 1,741 yds (13.7 avg) 11 TDs) if necessary. When a team has Super Bowl aspirations, like the Ravens do, adding a young vet like JJ is a very good move IMO... Yes.

The whining and bitching about his contracts immediately after they are released is nuts.

You always...always have to wait until the contracts are broken down.

But...but...but...(in a whiney voice) we shouldn't have paid $7 for someone to return kicks! I know how to manage this team better than the Ravens and that's just too much!

Jacoby Jones is due a $1 million roster bonus next year. Jones' contract includes an escalator clause next year.

The Ravens are now $1.12 million under the NFL salary cap limit, including Jacoby Jones' deal.

Pretty much like I expected - very similar to to the way they put McKinnie's deal together last year.

So you think he is could potentially get paid $4M from the Ravens in 2012? Do you honestly think the Ravens view him as a $4M receiver? So you think Houston cuts him at $3M and he signs on with the Ravens at $4M? Seems illogical. He has done nothing to prove a $4M salary. People that get cut don't typically sign somewhere else for more $. He clearly wasn't valued at $3M by Houston. He wasn't even a hot commodity. He had like 3 teams interested. I just can't see anything over $2M for 2012. More like $1.5M seems right.

Why is it some of you think he is really getting the full $7M that his agent publicized? It's like you are fixated on that number.

Be logical about this. Any simple understanding of modern NFL contracts makes it clear the maximum value is rarely if ever attained.

One of the most recent examples is the contract TO signed with Cincy when he exceeded expectations that year. That same performance is likely what Jacoby Jones would have to mimic to maximize this contract, which is highly unlikely.

    For example:

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...act-incentive/

Jacoby would likely have to be a top 10 receiver to maximize his contract value.
I was just doing the math. That's why I wrote that we need to see the actual bonus before we know and that it "could be as high as", not that it was.

My issue with Jones isn't the money anyway, it's the player. I don't like the way he plays in big spots. There were much better options at the start of free agency that I wish we explored. Since they waited until after the draft I'm guessing they were targeting a WR in the draft that they weren't able to get. Jones was then released and they saw an opportunity. Hope it works out.

    OL' GREASEHANDS MAGOO?!?!?!?!?!

    Why would you sign him?!

Oh, I get it. So... how much did y'all pay him to drop that ball right in front of the endzone?

Sounds ok to me. Basically a one year deal with a cap hit in 2013 of less than a million after he gets cut following this year. Solid return specialist and wr depth.
