Ravens want Rice, Flacco might have to wait

    http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/e...75988/34404412

The good Joe Flacco better show up on Sunday if he wants a new contract, he's on
    shaky ground right now.

Casserly also said Birk is retiring this year. I call BS on Casserly. Flacco will be the QB for the Ravens until Flacco decides to go.Postseason for first four years and owner plus Baltimore making money, no way Steve B insults Flacco.

Bullshit! :hammer: Flacco will be our QB in 2012, and 2013, 2014, 2015 etc.
In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

Unfortunately for Flacco he still has another year left on his rookie contract affording the Ravens the oppportunity to address other areas in need of immediate attention.(Rice, maybe Grubbs)

If Flacco had come out and set the league on fire then maybe his contract would be getting addressed this year.

Flacco is being treated no different then any other player we've drafted and considered valuable enough that they want to retain them.

This is the way the front office conducts itself and chooses to do business.

This front office has spent virtually its entire existence trying to replace Vinny Testeverde with a player of some type of quality at that position.
After them watching Flacco be the player at that position taking them to the playoffs four straight years I highly doubt there is any ground shaking under Flacco.
He's just gonna have to wait his turn in line.

This phrase is so laughable and off base it invalidates the entire article, at least the part he wrote...
So does Flacco deserve an extension? And if so, how much? The Cardinals and Chiefs overpaid Kevin Kolb and Matt Cassel ($63 million, $20 guaranteed; and $63 million, $28 million guaranteed, respectively). That's probably Flacco's ballpark, although that seems like a lot of money to tie up in a guy who completed just 57 percent of his passes in 2011. And his 20 touchdowns and 80.9 passer rating were his lowest totals since his rookie season.
Flacco, his agent, and Ravens front office people who could remain anonymous would laugh at a $60 million number as his "ceiling". The Ravens would never offer such an insulting contract for a QB who has accomplished so much in his first 4 years. Ever. His agent would laugh them out of the building and ask them if they were joking.

But again, it just shows how clueless the national media is and how they perceive Flacco's value. It is just mind blowing.

He will have to wait, but likely only until July or August. Rice, Grubbs and others are the priority for Feb and March. After that, they have often re-signed their core players once the summer arrives and the free agent period and draft are over.

Irrespective of what happens Sunday in the Patriots game, Joe will have his big money, long term contract in hand BEFORE he takes the first snap of the 2012 season. The Ravens are not going to do anything to jeopardize the relationship they have with Joe - the ONLY quarterback in NFL history to win 49 games in his first four years - a winning percentage of over 67% (PS - a better winning percentage EVEN if he loses Sunday's game than John Unitas achieved in EITHER his first four years - or over the entire length of his 17 year career - including championship and playoff games).

This kid is a winner and will be even better when Cam goes.

Either this guy (Casserly) is reading Preston or vice versa - either way they're both idiots.

Joe's gonna have to pay out his contract. We cant play him and Ray Rice.

He will be resigned, just not after this season. That said, if he wins a Super bowl, it will put extra pressure on the Ravens to make an offer.

How would signing him this off-season be different than waiting a year. Either way we have to get Grubbs, Rice and Flacco done. If any of those 3 walk it will be Grubbs, Gs are just easier to replace than QBs.

And SugarRay, there is no chance Flacco goes anywhere regardless of what happens Sunday.

They can pay both of them. In fact, signing Flacco to a long-term deal will likely reduce his 2012 Cap number.

I doubt they let him play out his contract. If they did and couldn't re-sign him in time, they'd have to franchise him and the franchise number for a QB is prohibitive.

Anyone thinking they won't sign him before the 2012 season starts is crazy. There is no way they let Flacco get to his final year, and possibly have to franchise him. If anyone is franchised, it'll be Grubbs or Rice.
