Re: What cliché or fallacy are you sick of hearing from the media?
I just heard someone on NFL Network say, "Its a one game season once you're in the playoffs".
Uh yea, its been that way ever since I've been watching football way back in the 70's. They make these comments like its some sort of revelation.
I don't watch as much pregame analysis as I used to. Most of these guys give you information that is obvious to even the most casual football fan.

"For the Texans to win today they need to get at the quarterback"
They say this every game. Isn't this an obvious strategy? I mean, does any team go out their NOT trying to get at the QB?

Re: What cliché or fallacy are you sick of hearing from the media?
"We need to play 60 minutes of football today" or
"We need to finish games"
Why would you play less than 60 minutes? Is this some kind of new revelation at the NFL level?
Sorry guys, I could go on forever with ths thread. I few years back when I went to Minnesota for Ravens vs Vikings my friend and I had a contest to see who could some up with the most obvious football cliches. This went on for 3 days and we never ran out!

That "X" Quarterback can't beat "Y" Quarterback....aka Joe could never beat Ben or Peyton could never beat Brady. They don't actually go against each other so how can Joe ever beat Ben?

Over-reliance on statistics by the media
Now I find stats interesting, in particular breaking records.
However, telling me the result of Giants and Jets matchups going back to the fifties and how it'll affect a game this year???
ESPN are fond of this

on a dropped ball
"you have to catch those kinds of passes"
on a FG attempt or turnover
"you don't want to waste a scoring opportunity"
when an underdog challenges the favorite
"this is why they play the game"
