Top 10 Ravens Moments of 2011

Maybe it's a play; perhaps a free agent acquisition or draft pick; perhaps a front office decision.

In your opinion what were the most impactful Ravens moments in 2011?

I would like to do this annually and summarize it in a blog. Then going forward I can link the blog(s) here and it might be interesting to see how these thoughts/opinions appear in retrospect.

Hope you can all play along.

And if it's just 1 or a couple of things that stick out to you, put those down...it doesn't have to be 10 unless of course you can bring 10 and if you can, by all means, have at it!

Flacco to Smith to beat Pissburgh should be number one.

The decision to drop fan favorites Mason, Heap, Gregg, etc, which seems to have been a good one.

Only a couple but I will post again if I think of more.

Thumbs up Re: Top 10 Ravens Moments of 2011

Flacco to Smith at 0:08 4th Q at Pitt is clearly #1.

    Others include:

    • Flacco to Smith for three rookie TDs against St. Louis
    • Ray Rice long gain first play of the season to set up first TD
    • 7 takeaways in home opener
    • Johnson's fumble recovery for a TD vs. Jets
    • 2 point conversion in home opener and whiny Stillers fan reactions :grbac:
    • defense 4th Q shut down Texans - three 3+outs and forced fumble
    • 21 point comeback win vs. Cardinals -- biggest in team history
    • overturning of Jermaine Gresham's TD catch late 4th Q vs. Bengals
    • Suggs' historic three sacks and three forced fumbles over the team owned by the son of the late Robert Irsay

There's an counter-argument that that's a bottom ten low-light. :grbac: Ravens are among NFL "leaders" in dropped passes after dumping two relatively sure-handed vet receivers.
In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

Is it wrong to think that seeing fan favorites go is never a good thing? Those guys brought so much more to Baltimore than what they did on the field. Moving on certainly hasn't backfired but there are better things that have happened to the Ravens and their fans, than losing a bunch of all time great Ravens in one season.

    1) The Pittsburgh sweep. First time since 2006 that we swept them. And the first two times in Flacco's career that they have beaten Pitt with Jen under center.

    2) Joe to Torrey for the sweep sealing TD.

    3) Crushing Rex and his loud mouths for two years in a row.

    4) Torrey Smith falling to us. Where would this offense be without that guy?

    5) The resurgence of our pass rush. We go from in the bottom half of the league to leading the league in sacks.

    6) Finally getting some production out of our 2009 draft class. Oher has been much better at RT. Kruger no longer looks like a total bust. And Webb is by far the best DB on the team.

    7) Winning the Harbbowl.

    8) Getting Yanda back.

    9) One more.... Pernell McPhee. With the way this guy has played, he probably should have been our first round pick.

And that's all I got right now.

First play of the 2011 Jets game: Ed Reed chops the ball from Sanchez's hand, McClain picks it up and rumbles in for a TD!

    1. Flacco to Torrey Smith in Pittsburgh for the win.
    2. Flacco to Boldin in the first Pittsburgh game to begin the rout.
    3. Torrey Smith's 3 TDs in St Louis.
    4. Anquan Boldin takes over the Arizona game for the comeback win.
    5. 9 sacks on ThanksGiving.

Last but not least - Ben Roesthlisberger playing on a sprained ankle in San Fran!

The first day Vonta Leach put on purple and blew up his first defensive lineman.

Changed the entire complextion of how the opposing defense game-planned for us.

My moment hasn't happened yet. I'm hoping its this Sunday when the Ravens secure a home playoff game.

Sam Koch as holder for the extra point in Week One, takes the ball and runs in for two points.

It turned a three score game into a four score game and gives the Steelers a right kicking when they were down

And it was good coaching, Rosburg and Harbaugh later said they spotted a weakness on the left side of the line and decided to go for it

That's the first entry on next year's list.
