Re: The "Ravens Nation" invades San Diego thread

Ugh, no disrespect thread starter, but let's not call ourselves "ravens nation". How about flock, brigade or squadron? Anything but Nation though. Just don't want to hear some of the few steeler trolls that frolic through here thinking that we're trying to mimic their saying. Lord knows some of them can be insufferable enough without any assist. Yeah it's small shit, but I feel we can come up with something a bit more unique to us. ;) Have a blast at the game though those that go. Wish that I could make that trip, but dough is tied up in a lot of other stuff right about now. And let's go Ravens!

Talk is cheap! Come up with something better. Flock, brigade, squadron. Not feeling it. Ravens Nation was fitting for the flag image above. Let's see the Steelers match that...seriously.

But now, back to our regularly scheduled programming about the what, wheres, hows and whens of the weekend in San Diego.

    Love,

Dirty Birds in Pacific Beach the only true Ravens bar in the San Diego area, is offering 20% of your entire tab if you present a valid Maryland drivers license beginning Thursday through Sunday.

That certainly trumps a $6.80 20 ounce beer at some national chain bar willing to sell out their hometown team.

Well, we'd be copying a moniker that they stole from Red Sox fans, who stole it from Raiders fans, (not that any of them would ever admit it). But I agree, it's WAY overused now.

    Raven Republic, maybe?

Re: Going to San Diego? Track where Ravens fans will be here!

Wish that Dirty Birds place had been there when I lived in Pacific Beach in the late 90s -- looks good!

Of course, there might be a Ravens bar on Avenida Revolucion in Tijuana too. You all should go down there to check, just in case. Purely for research purposes.

As to the Pacific Beach/Downtown quandary, resolve any doubts heavily in favor of P.B. Downtown is lame. They'd have to be damn near giving beer away for me to pick that over P.B.

I was there during the Super Bowl (Den-GB I think it was the Elway "helicopter" game IIRC) and all the downtown parties sucked. Having said that, the airport is downtown so I'd stay there, the beach is a short drive or taxi ride from there, as is the stadium. Also, I know the trolley runs downtown, just don't know if it connects to the line that runs to the stadium.

Oh yes. I haven't had a fish taco like a Rubio's fish taco since I left San Diego. Nobody, nowhere, does it like they do. Great, great stuff.

On the subject of burgers, the In N Out Burger, if you've never had one, it's a must try. They used to have one in Pacific Beach, don't know now. Easy to google the current locations, well worth the effort.

I highly recommend Pure Platinum downtown too.

In Tijuana, you could do worse than dinner at "Caesar's Palace" (you learn quickly that there are no copyright laws in Mexico, apparently, or at least not in Tijuana) and the sportsbook down the street at Caliente is pretty cool.

The West Wing will be in San Deigo supporting both Tilted Kilt and Dirty Birds (sadly most of us have CA licenses, so buy us a beer) on Saturday. Here's the full plan for the game, all are welcome to join our big 'ol group:

SUNDAY, 12/18- The majority of The West Wing member will be staying at Omni Hotel San Diego. If you still need to make arrangements please call them at (619) 231-6664. On gameday we'll be hosting out Purple Tailgate at 1:30pm PST located in section P2 of the bus parking lot on the southeast side of the stadium. This event is open to all, if you didn’t get a tailgate ticket from Ravens Roap Trips (free beer, food and bus to/from the game) it’s okay, you can still join us just BYOB.

More information and details here- http://thewestwingla.com

Hey all - another Ravens fan in San Diego here. I echo sentiments supporting Dirty Birds in PB. Downtown is closer to the stadium, but PB is a lot more fun and the Ravens faithful will be at Dirty Birds throughout the weekend. They organized a bus trip/tailgate that is up to 50 strong attending the game. The Ravens presence is definitely growing in SoCal.

Just stick to the coast for any sightseeing/bar hopping. Mission Valley (where Qualcomm is located) is awful. It's just strip malls, chain restaurants, and congestion. Take a cab to Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, or Mission Beach and embrace the scene.

Are we really welcome to join the tailgate without a ticket? I have a group of 6 interested. Will certainly bring our own drinks, but do we need to ask for anyone in particular when we arrive? We would love to throw down with some like-minded individuals before game time! Is there an easy way to spot you guys in P2?

You can't go to SD without going to the gas lamp district. And the above poster is right, the area around Qualcom sucks.
