    Re: Greedy Corporations

Very good for those corporations and helps their PR

But how much did they pay in taxes and how much corporate welfare did they recieve?

The most egregious example is General Electric. Last year the conglomerate generated $10.3 billion in pretax income, but ended up owing nothing to Uncle Sam. In fact, it recorded a tax benefit of $1.1 billion
    They have clever accountants ;)
Over the last two years, GE Capital has displayed an uncanny ability to lose lots of money in the U.S. (posting a $6.5 billion loss in 2009), and make lots of money overseas (a $4.3 billion gain). Not only do the U.S. losses balance out the overseas gains, but GE can defer taxes on that overseas income indefinitely.

GE isn't on your list but a fairly typical example.
Billions in tax breaks or funneling profits abroad and then throw a few million to charity.

Google Ireland do much the same, technology licensed from California but overseas profits declared in Ireland, transferred to the Netherlands and then to Bermuda.
    All legal, no laws broken

    Interesting article:

So you want to praise corporations for giving millions to charity, that's fair enough
When the real story is the billions your US treasury never sees.

Eh, the government would just piss it all down the drain anyway. I'd rather the money go to real charities that actually help people instead of keeping them stupid in hopes they'll vote democrat.

    Whose fault is that, theirs?

The money that these corporations give they don't receive 200% tax credit or 100%. If they did I could see overlooking their generosity but since they don't I think it's fair to give them credit for donating to charity.

BTW - The U.S. Treasury does see that money in someway or another, these charities don't just take the money and keep it, they buy thing (sales tax) pay people (payroll tax) to provide services to the people the charities serve.

So back on topic, corporations are not just some group of greedy rich folks who don't think of people who don't have as much as they do.
