Torrey is third in the NFL in ypc.

If you take those who have had at least 10 catches.

    Malcom Floyd 21.1
    Steve Smith 20.0
    Torrey Smith 19.8
    Jordy Nelson 19.7

Pretty good company to be in.

    Another Smith stat:

More than half of the passes thrown where Smith was the targeted have been 20 yards or further downfield.

He had four drops on Sunday night, and just one the rest of the year.

He's still a bit raw, but I think this kid is going to be really special.

I don't think any of us expected him to have this kind of impact, especially after watching him in the preseason.

He has made multiple game changing plays...

Took over the STL game with 3 TDs in 1st Q.
Made huge (non)catch against Texans to get us a score when we were in need.
Catch vs Cards to get us into easy field goal range.
Game winning catch vs the Steelers.

That's amazing stuff for a rookie. I can't wait to see Joe and Torrey's relationship develop.

All in only half a season.

If he ever learns how to catch the ball better, look out.. This guy has a rare combination of break-away speed and power too. He's built like a Mack Truck.

also add the 50+ yard PI penalty he drew vs the Jags could have changed the game

Although he has shown signs of good hands form on many catches, his propensity to catch the ball with his body and arms still scares me. Even on the Steeler TD he let the ball get into his body, and the way he ended up holding the ball in the bend of his elbow like a loaf of bread looked anything but secure.

I noticed that too.. as he is sliding across the ground on his back he his holding the ball like he's cradling an infant between his wrist and forearm. How hard is it to secure the ball with your hands? The Ravens really need to work with him on that. He's way too talented to be brick-handing so many passes.

He needs to improve his ability to catch the ball, but his speed has proven dangerous. Torrey's numbers compare favorably to Mike Wallace during his rookie season, and now Wallace is one of the better wideouts in the NFL.

He also has shown a good ability to adjust to a ball in flight. That's hugely important when jockeying for position in a one on one situation, especially on a high, deep ball.

I also like his arm length. Not sure, but it seems like he has a good wingspan for his body.
