The throwaways are a good point. My perception is you're right: he has thrown it away more. How much that contributes to his lower completion percentage, I don't know.
The main thing, from what I see, is that the offensive scheme is being more aggressive and Flacco is being more aggressive in it. He's not checking down nearly as quickly, and he's challenged defenders more than in his first three years. I've wanted to see that- rely on your receivers to make plays down the field- so I'm not upset if that means some passes don't get caught. I'd rather have a miss 30 yards down the field than a completion for 1 most of the time.
