“When I think of a Baltimore Raven - we go in there, we take your lunch box, we take your sandwich, we take your juice box, we take your applesauce, and we take your spork and we break it. And we leave you with an empty lunch. That’s the Baltimore Raven way.” - Steve Smith Sr.
Call me a Special Teams coach again. I dare you! I double dare you, MFer!

Re: Ray Rice fined $7500 for stiff arm?!
Dan Kolko said Ray Rice said it on 105.7 FM, and that was after I read the tweet from somewhere else. Granted, Dan Kolko said it on Twitter, but he's still legitimate media.
Like you said, maybe we'll know more tomorrow - but I'm inclined to believe that this is legitimate information.
Ray Rice apparently said it during a radio interview; so as of yet, there is no link. We'll have to wait and see if the press media picks up on the story for confirmation."A lot" is a two word expression denoting a great deal or greatly, as in "I like sunshine a lot." "Alot" is a lovable imaginary grammar monster. You can love a lot; you can love an alot; you can love alots a lot; but they are not the same thing.

I don't have a link but I was listening when he said it. Still seems strange it wasn't announced somewhere, I thought they all were.

Re: Ray Rice fined $7500 for stiff arm?!
Just checked nfl.com and baltimoreravens.com--not a peep. But nothing from Greedell surprises me any more.
BTW, folks, howdy--finally made it over from the message-board version of the Marie Celeste...

Re: Ray Rice fined $7500 for stiff arm?!
A little OT, but this (alleged?) fine reminds me of a problem/question I've got with NFL rules.
If a defensive player so much as brushes a face mask, it's a 15 yard penalty, but offensive players with the ball can jam the face mask right back into a tackler's head and it's completely legit.
I don't mind that, but how does it make any sense? Shouldn't the defensive penalty be only if the face mask is grabbed/twisted?

Re: Ray Rice fined $7500 for stiff arm?!
Actually, the ball carrier can not grab a face mask and twist it or leverage the defensive players helmet backwards any more. In years past they could but as of 2008 the rule changed. I believe this season it has been a "point of emphasis" by the officials to not allow the ball carrier to do it. I can't find a link to the emphasis part, but here is the new rule as of 2008:
A "facemask" penalty is a judgment call that is not reviewable by replay.
Rule 12, Section 2, Article 5 of the NFL Rule Book (page 81) states that "no player shall twist, turn, or pull the facemask of an opponent in any direction."
The Rule Book describes the penalty as follows:
"Penalty: For twisting, turning or pulling the mask: loss of 15 yards. A personal foul. The player may be disqualified if the action is judged by the official(s) to be of a flagrant nature."
