Re: Whiner Jets fans blaming the refs? Good stuff!
Mike Carey and his crew really did to a terrible job.

Reed was blocked into the punter also, as I recall it.
It was poorly officiated, though.

Re: Whiner Jets fans blaming the refs? Good stuff!
Reed and Pollard were both blocked into the punter. Collinsworth missed that, and won't ever be wrong.
I thought Ngata was borderline, therefore I was surprised it wasn't called. He lowered his head just before the hit, didn't really seem to be intentionally spearing (as they used to call it).
Overall it was really poorly officiated. Carey was in a fog the whole game.

Re: Whiner Jets fans blaming the refs? Good stuff!
I haven't seen a good angle on the Ngata play. From Sanchez' front you can't tell if Ngata turned his helmet to the side or not; it may have been a good non-call.
I didn't think Reed was blocked into the punter and I looked for it. Pollard was clearly blocked into the punter. The Burress play on the sideline was called correctly, I believe. I've seen it before where a player will shove or something to get away from a guy grabbing his facemask, and it's only the facemask that's called. That seems reasonable to me.
On the other hand, if I was a Jets fan, I'd probably be saying the same thing: the Jets played poorly, that's what cost them the game, but the officiating was horrible and one sided against the Jets.
It's normal fan behavior.
I suppose it was a poorly officiated game.Festivus
His definitions and arguments were so clear in his own mind that he was unable to understand how any reasonable person could honestly differ with him.

Re: Whiner Jets fans blaming the refs? Good stuff!
Just as Reed dives he gets pushed, which alters his trajectory so he lands under the punter. That's the play where the Jets get called for holding on the other side of the line.
Collinsworth was whining that the RTP should have offset the penalty, and even guessing that personal fouls sometimes take precedence.
The Jets did play poorly on offense, but they should have expected that. Even with perhaps the best center in football they weren't running it well, and that's how they've protected Sanchez the last two years: pounding the rock. With the O-line they had to play with, Ngata had a field day. So did Suggs and Kruger. When you can't run and can't pass, there aren't many options left on offense. Punting on first down may have been the wiser choice in hindsight.
Defensively and on special teams they had a pretty good day, but not enough to make up for the Ravens D.

Re: Whiner Jets fans blaming the refs? Good stuff!
There was definitely contact by the blocker on Reed, and I thought there was enough to it to make it a no-call for the ref. Particularly from the camera angle behind the punter, which showed roughly the same angle on the play the ref saw. Judging only by that angle, I'd have had to go with no-call there too.
Agree though, not a well called game. Glad we didn't get hosed out of a W.

Re: Whiner Jets fans blaming the refs? Good stuff!
I think it was a poorly officiated game from both sides, their DB's were mugging the Ravens wide outs the whole game.
But in the end, I can sum up their complaints in one word: BITCHES.
Funny how when they are physical and bashing Brady and knocking them and Manning out of the playoffs, they weren't complaining. Fact is, the Ravens tagged Sanchez because the line didn't hold up. No Ref in the world is going to give you roughing calls when every down is a jailbreak.

Re: Whiner Jets fans blaming the refs? Good stuff!
I would probably agree that the Jets got fewer officiating breaks in the game, but for my money the most egregious officiating error was the quick whistle on the screen pass/lateral deflected by McClain. That ball looked like it traveled right down the 17-yard line and it would have been an easy TD for the Ravens had the whistle not been blown.
To be clear, my problem isn't with the eventual call, it was with the quick whistle, since I thought the officials are instructed to let the play run and make corrections later.
Of all the calls in the game, that had the biggest direct impact in terms of points.

My boss was pissed at every single call that went against the Jets all game.
