Re: It's official: Cameron will be back as OC
None of this would matter if Biscuit hadn't come out 3 years ago and stated the goal was to win the SuperBowl. If the goal was just to make the playoffs each year, then keeping Cameron would be fine.
But when you state a goal, and it's clear by now you are failing to get there in large part b/c of Cameron, it makes no sense to keep him around.
Here is the measuring stick I use:
2008 - crap WRs, lose in AFC title game...Cameron as OC
2009 - crap WRs, lose in AFC div round game...Cameron as OC
2010 - big upgrade at WRs, lose in AFC div round game...Cameron as OC
How do you improve the personnel and yet the result is not any better?

Re: It's official: Cameron will be back as OC
explain why the OC had such a big downgrade? Is it simply b/c Gaither did not play and we moved Oher to LT and some other guys were not in their natural positions?
Is that really a major thing? If so, please explain, b/c from a high level it seems like a pro off lineman should be able to play guard or tackle.

Re: It's official: Cameron will be back as OC
Are you suggesting that all offensive linemen are created equal? Great ...then why don't we just start Oneil Cousins any ol' place on the offensive line ...I'm sure he'll do just fine! I mean, he's a profesional offensive lineman, right? C'mon...
So yes, it's a major thing. Yanda is CLEARLY better at guard than tackle. You may think that shouldn't be the case, but it is. And Oher in his second year proved he wasn't as good as Gaither at LT. They're both professionals, but there ya go...

Cut the sarcasm please...it was a serious question. I did not say every OL was the same...if I did then they would all be a HOF like Ogden. Did Gaither not playing create a domino effect they were not prepared to handle?

Consider it cut.
I don't know if you'd call it a domino effect, but the result was a less effective personnel grouping in terms of skill set vis a vis specific position. I'm sure the coaching staff had hopes it would be better than it was, but that didn't happen. Of course, they probably also hoped that Gaither would get both his act and his health together. Fixing the OL, in my view, is one of the team's biggest needs during the off season.

Re: It's official: Cameron will be back as OC
I need to get this straight...first the HC says "Cam is our OC" blah blah blah...then shortly before (or after) the best candidates for another OC take job(s) elsewhere...suddenly the Ravens are contemplating replacing Cam? As someone posted "Cam is our default". WTF? The word should have went out (so to speak) earlier that the Ravens were ready and willing for an upgrade at OC.
Seriously folks...it sounds like the Orioles. It's not middle school (or junior high) where you can't breakup with a girl or get a buddy to tell a girl who you like.
BTW I mean no offense to our lady posters here...my point is that professional organizations know how to upgrade in an appropriate fashion.

Re: It's official: Cameron will be back as OC
I'm enjoying his thread, lots of interesting posts by many of you.
But nobody has replied to my question this morning about the role and function of Al Saunders in our offense. RavenScallywag said it, that Cam's style was the "lone wolf" style, accepting no input from anyone. Well, in that case why would Al Saunders have a job?

Re Saunders: Maybe publically accepting input is one thing to Cameron, but privately, away from the players is a different story. I'm just guessing here. Either way, I'm so sick of all these coaches w/ either a fragile ego, like Cam, or the polar opposite of the ego maniac like Billick.
Cameron needs to go.....O line issues or not.
