Al Wilson released by the Broncos
What do you think would that be a worthwhile pickup for the Ravens to help solidify the depth of the LB core?
He recently switched agents to Peter Shaffer - the same agent as Mike Anderson and Trevor Pryce. He saw a neck and back specialist in LA and was told surgery is not needed, just a little more time. After his injury last December he returned the next week and played in 3 more games. I know what the Giants' doctors said, but two other experts have said quite differently than thoat staff.
Could be worth a look to see if we could bring in a 5 time pro bowler to share time with Jarrett Johnson. I would think that as outspoken as Pryce and Anderson have been about how great the facility and team is here in Baltimore there have probably already been a few calls placed between the former teammates.
Could we structure a contract with reasonable and reachable incentive clauses that might make it workable within our cap??? Now that he has been cut we would not have to give up anything(meaning players or draft picks - previously the Broncos were asking for a 3rd round pick in this year's draft for him).
I think it would be worth a look..what do you think.Last edited by donnaj; 04-14-2007 at 10:13 AM. Reason: added more information

Re: Al Wilson released by the Broncos
Nope. The guy is a pro bowler, and will expect to be PAID. He wouldn't restructure where he was, and I'm sure the Redskins will gladly overpay him now that they didn't get Briggs.
At our end, I would not expect that he's even on our radar. I think we're trying to get younger (and cheaper) at that position, not older.

Re: Al Wilson released by the Broncos
Yet last year we went after and got Trevor Pryce and Mike Anderson....I think with the recent difficulties he has had we may be able to get him at a decent price. I think it would be at least worthwhile to take a look, at the very least we should wait until 4/29 and see what we have acquired, if he is still available. It would make sense to investigate and see what kind of deal he might be interested in as well as check out his health situation pre-draft and perhaps if the price is right acquire him then. " Right player, Right Price" isn't that correct.

First we sign him and tell him he is the guy. Then we sign Jamal back, whoops looks like your number 2 now Mike.
Then when Jamal is playing terribly, MA still gets no PT at all.
All that said I'm sure that Trevor Pryce would have great things to say about our team, and his word would probably carry more weight since him and Wilson were on the same D.
With all of that said Im still not interested in Wilson, we dont need to spend any more money on the D, thats what the draft is for."This year, our attitude when we’re on the field is we’re attacking, we want to put points on the board and then let our defense pin their ears back and have at it."

Re: Al Wilson released by the Broncos
Don't get me wrong, if they got him to sign some humble 2 year deal, I'd be happy to have him, even if it was situational because of his injury. I just think that for that to happen, his agent would have to call up and beg for us to take him. I don't see Ozzie making the call.

Al Wilson is not cleared to play football
DENVER (AP) -- Broncos linebacker Al Wilson's heart tells him he can still play football. His neck is a different story.
The Broncos released the five-time Pro Bowl player Friday because of a combination of injury and salary cap concerns. Wilson, who injured his neck against Seattle on Dec. 3, was scheduled to make $5.2 million in base salary this season.
A Broncos spokesman declined comment and an e-mail to Denver general manager Ted Sundquist wasn't returned.
Wilson, who was informed by the team Thursday night he'd be cut, had no bitter feelings toward the team.
"My time is up as a Bronco," the eight-year veteran said. "It's time to move forward and try something else. You have to do what's best for your organization, just like a Fortune 500 company. Sometimes you have to let good employees go

Re: Al Wilson released by the Broncos
Actually, from what I've read, he was cleared to play football. This was more of a salary cap cut than anything else (and although he was cleared, that doesn't mean the Broncos didn't have concerns about his neck injury recurring at some point).
He's been around a while but he's only 29 -- I don't think it would be a bad idea to at least check him out, if he could agree to a reasonable price.

Re: Al Wilson released by the Broncos
The Broncos and Gmen had a deal in place contingent on passing a physical. Wilson failed it.. A healthy Al Wilson would make anyone better , however when players start failing physcals the red flags have to go up . Especially in the salary cap era, it's only so much money to go around.

Re: Al Wilson released by the Broncos
Samari Rolle had a deal a few years back with the chiefs pending a physical, and he failed it.
we passed him 2 weeks or so later...

Re: Al Wilson released by the Broncos
It's not only the teams' physical he can't pass.
His personal physician is not clearing him to play. It's in the article.

0587,
I do not believe that Rolle failed the physical. The physical showed a back condition that Rolle had and it scared the Chiefs away.
If you fail a physical with one team, you would fail with another. Doctors are doctors."This year, our attitude when we’re on the field is we’re attacking, we want to put points on the board and then let our defense pin their ears back and have at it."

Re: Al Wilson released by the Broncos
Yeah, some doctor/s said Samari Rolle had a narrowing of the spinal column or spinal stenosis if memory serves me correctly. I'm no doctor so take this with a grain of salt but I believe spinal stenosis is a condition that starts to happen as we get older [50 ish] but people that injure their spines can hasten it.
I thought I heard on Bruce and Aarons show yesterday that Al Wilson may need a neck operation at some point. Much different circumstances than someone with a potential problem.
Just my 2c
