    Moore, Sams, Darling offered tenders

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/f...orts-headlines

The Ravens tendered one-year, $850,000 contracts to all three restricted free agents: return specialist B.J. Sams and receivers Devard Darling and Clarence Moore.

If any of the three sign an offer sheet elsewhere and the Ravens decline to match, they will be compensated with a 2007 draft pick that matches the round in which the player was originally chosen.

Darling was a third-round pick and Moore was taken in the sixth round. Because Sams was undrafted, the Ravens would receive no compensation.

I doubt that either Darling or Moore would get any interest. Although I don't know why we are tying up the cap space on Moore.

For Sams - would an injury settlement have been less cap hit?
In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

sounds like the ravens are banking on the injury and legal troubles of sams to scare off other teams.

He's a good return man and there may well be substantial interest.

Maybe I'm an idiot but I still think Darling could be a pretty good WR. Moore, on the other hand . . . :grbac:

I wouldn't miss him if he was gone, and I doubt the FO would, either. I doubt there is any gamesmanship in the low tender to Sams at all, I think it was 100% fair.

His current legal troubles could cost him 1/4 of the season and there is no reason to think, based on past performance, he won't have *more* legal troubles any day now. A drunk who can't seem to get sober? No thanks. Not under the NFLPA.

To the best of my understanding, it is not charged to the cap unloess they make the team. Making the team at those relatively low numbers adds depth to the back of the Roster. I personally have seen enough of Moore, but not Darling. He still has starter potential in my eyes. No, not above 3 current options, but if Mason goes away and someone gets hurt, I'd be less scared with Darling off the field then some random 2nd day guy.

BJ Sams I can understand, but Darling and Moore? Again? In an offseason where cap space is precious, we can't find better use of $1.7M (both 850k tenders for Darling and Moore) in cap space?

That said and with our recent trend, Darling will have a surprising season here in his contract year a la Kemo, Pashos, Ovie Mughelli.
    It's a new season! It's a new day!

Thats assuming he even gets on the field. As of the end of the season he was our 5th WR, behind even Moore (6th if you count Bannister). Barring injury to our top 3, he's not getting any higher than 4.

I just wonder what his deal is. Darling had the best preseason of any WR on the team last year, but still couldn't climb the depth chart. Must be practice.

I just want to know why we're throwing money...ANY money...at scrubs like Darling and Moore. Save it for Ovie.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Cleveland going after Sams. I would love it if someone took Darling off our hands for a third rounder though.

I don't understand why the team is keeping Devard Darling when they seem to have no intention of using him? And the only thing keeping Moore on the team is his towering height. Other than that, both WRs are expendable.

    However, Sams is a keeper.
