Flacco's Limp - WJZ Video
Just saw this video on WJZ.com (titled "Flaccos shows signs of season long wear & tear): http://wjz.com/video/?cid=26
I know he's been dealing w/ this injury for a while, but I've never seen him limp this badly before. Part of it may be that he wasn't properly warmed up during practice, but the Sun reported he left practice early to start treatment. This definitely confirms the theory that his injuries are hurting his performance more than the Ravens are letting on. No wonder he's taking so many sacks, he can barely walk.

Re: Flacco's Limp - WJZ Video
Cam's take from an interview with MASN seems to disagree with your "definite" source of sacks:
Most people who watched last Sunday's game against the Raiders and saw quarterback Joe Flacco's 11-for-19, 106-yard, four sack performance came away from the contest feeling like Flacco hadn't played a solid ballgame.
Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron didn't see it that way.
To Cameron, Flacco perfectly executed the game plan against Oakland: Move the ball when you can, but don't, under any circumstances, turn it over.
"The one thing that I really asked of our guys," Cameron said, "was having been in that stadium against that organization for a long time and knowing how good that defense really is, I just said, 'Offensively, we refuse... We will not put our defense in a compromising position. I don't care what we do. If we have to take a sack, fall down, throw an incompletion - we're going to punt that ball back to them.'
"Over the years, we've found that if you do that, you tend to get the ball back maybe as if you've scored a couple, or gotten a couple of first downs. I thought Joe took two great sacks and threw two great incompletions in the game because that was the game plan. There are some other games where you really have to take more risk than you want to. That game was a zero-risk game."

Re: Flacco's Limp - WJZ Video
Didn't mean to imply this injury was a "definitive" cause of anything - bad choice of words by me. I just thought it was interesting how much the limp was noticeable on the video as I've never noticed it during games before. So either this means he's been dealing with this on a weekly basis and it naturally works itself out with treatment or perhaps it's more severe than he lets on.

Or that his leg is wrapped in a preventative brace in that video and its severely limiting his mobility.
I know when I was recovering from my knee injury I wore a brace that made it almost impossible to bend me knee whenever I was going to be doing moderately strenuous activity.“I already believe I am the best linebacker in the game. Now, I have to show one more thing ? That I am the most dominating, influential person in the game and the best football player to ever put on a pair of cleats.” -Ray Lewis

Yeah, I'm with you. But unless this hip injury slows his brain down too, I'm not buying it. Add to that, receivers are wearing down and he was told that we would win that game without him taking any chances at all, and there are some sacks.
I would bet on more aggression expected from Flacco on Sunday, as we will likely have to score 20+ to win this one.

Re: Flacco's Limp - WJZ Video
After the Raiders game, I stopped by my grandmother's house (she's Wacko-4-Flacco) and she asked me why Joe looked so "lazy and slow" out there last Sunday.
I told her he was dealing with nagging injuries and she said that "Unitas played through the pain"... Which in my mind means that she expects Joe to suck it up and get into championship mode ASAP.
Hope he can fulfill her expectations, since her mood can be as foul as mine when the Ravens lose...
Ice that ankle and let's go JOE!!

Re: Flacco's Limp - WJZ Video
I think his hip and ankle injuries are affecting him. When you throw the ball you use the whole of your body, and if you're hurting, especially through the hip, it's going to affect how you throw.
There have been time in the last few games where he had a lane and could have run to gain some yardsn but instead he was holding onto the ball and taking sacks. The guy can move, and I'm not saying he should take off all the time, but he looks very reluctant to move around and use his legs (even just moving around the pocket) which makes me think he's hurting and not confident enough to push it.

Re: Flacco's Limp - WJZ Video
It has been widely reported from several media members that Joe has been dealing with this ankle/leg/hop injury for the last 6-8 weeks. It definitely makes sense if you pay attention to the way he has played over the time period compared to the beginning of this year and last year. He has definitely lost mobility due to these injuries.
Joe will suck it up though

Re: Flacco's Limp - WJZ Video
I hope you're right. If you are Joe is a fine actor. I saw that that clip and was stunned at how bad he looked. He looked like an old man. If he is really as bad as I saw in that short clip (and of course that needs to be taken with a grain of salt because it was only 5 seconds of video) then this current injury resulted from the Oakland game. He looked like he could hardly walk in the clip.
With anti-inflammatories, physical therapy exercises, whirlpool, etc etc. I hope he's a lot better by game time and I hope that the clip I saw wasn't really representative of how banged up his hip is.
Regardless, I fully expect Flacco to play through the pain as long as long as it's the type of injury you can play with safely. Oh yeah, he's a tough kid. He may not sound like it or look like it but he's tough.
