I am sorry that I disappointed every one in my performance this year. I have fallen since my spectacular win 4 years ago which I am sure everyone thoroughly remembers. I will try to do better for my fans next year.

The key for me is to pick every week. During the early and middle of the season while I was working out the quirks of the software I wasn't picking. When I started picking more than 5 to catch up my picks went to hell. Then I started picking more than 5 to try and get the percentage up.

Now I have the software working and a building database where I have included some things like weather conditions (generalized into temp, wind, cloud and precip conditions) and game locations with playing surface and domed or not included. If I can figure out how to analyze these things I should kick butt next year. That means I will be scientifically picking my lousy picks.

Re: Pick 5 ATS Results FINAL!

Thanks for running the league, Greg! I had a few bad weeks near the end of the season, but was able to finish strong in Week 17. In fact, I really loved the Week 17 spreads, and I'm still a little surprised that Tennessee couldn't cover against Seattle to make it 5-0.

Picking every week is very important to winning, because the more games you have to pick in any given week, the more likely you are to gamble on games where you're not very confident. The spreads also get more and more accurate throughout the season, as Vegas gets a better idea of what teams are really like. Then the spreads are a mess for the last week of the season because so many games are meaningless, and it's hard to predict which teams will play hard and which ones will limp to the finish.

My five simple rules for improving your percentages:

    1. Try to pick outright winners rather than believing in the spread. If you don't think the underdog has any chance of a victory, don't bank on them making it competitive enough for a cover, even with a double-digit margin.

    2. Small home favorites are usually good; small home underdogs are often even better.

    3. Bet against rookie QBs on the road.

    4. West Coast teams usually falter when they come east, especially in early games. Expected wins become losses and expected blowouts become narrow covers.

    5. Stick to games where both teams have an identity. Some teams you can count on for a certain level of effort or style of play. Other teams are located in Jacksonville and Oakland. STAY AWAY FROM THOSE TEAMS.

I'll see if I can continue my solid season in the playoff challenge, and I look forward to defending my title next season!

Does BigSwinginKev get an award for sucking most badly?

Hopefully that guy never puts any real money on games!

Greg...Let me know if you would like me to write a program that will accumulate all of the knowledge for you, apply appropriate weighting and give you the definite winners of each game. Even with all of that work I do, the answer will still probably be 42.

No shame in that; going better than 60% against the spread makes for a pretty fantastic season. Do it consistently and it's time to hit Vegas!
