Just consider who we've had as our main return guys for the past ten years...

Yamon Figurs - WR

KR - 75 returns 1,746 yards 23.3 avg 1 TD 3 Fumbles
PR - 39 returns 309 yards 7.9 avg 1 TDs 4 Fumbles

Jim Leonard - DB

KR - 8 returns 163 yards 20.4 avg
PR - 20 returns 232 yards 11.6 avg 1 fumble

BJ Sams - RB

KR - 138 returns 3161 yards 22.9 avg 1 fumble
PR - 121 returns 1,321 yards 10.9 avg 2 TDs 4 Fumbles

Cory Ross - RB

KR - 18 returns 342 yards 19.0 avg 1 fumble
PR - 18 returns 73 yards 4.1 avg 2 fumbles

Lamont Brightful - DB

KR - 63 returns 1417 yards 22.5 avg 2 fumbles
PR - 60 returns 592 yards 9.9 avg 3 fumbles (Suprisingly, he had the same amount of fumbles here as he did in 2 games with Miami the following year...no wonder he only lasted 2 games)

Jermaine Lewis - WR

KR - 139 returns 3153 yards 22.7 avg 6 fumbles (over 6 years, mind you)
PR - 231 returns 2730 yards 11.8 avg 6 TDs 5 fumbles

Phew...good thing it's a slow day at work. So let's pull some trends here...

- WR posted the most KR Yards (mainly due to JeLewis), but RB was 2nd because of BJ Sams time here

- RB was last in KR avg at 21, with WR coming in #1 with 23 and DB coming in 2nd with 21.5. RB was also last in PR avg.

- RB Fumbles were 2nd most, with 8 total (2 on KR, 6 on PR)...WR came in last, DBs had 2 less fumbles than RBs

- We've not had a DB (outside of Ed Reed or CMac, who I excluded for this comparison) return for a TD. RB had 2 PR TDs, no KR TDs

- BJ Sams had 2nd best KR avg to Figurs. Sams had 3rd best PR avg to Leonard and Lewis

- BJ Sams had terrible PR fumble issues, tying Yamon Figurs for 2nd. Jermaine Lewis was first, but that was also over 6 years.

So looking at the numbers for the Ravens (and I know that's a limited subset, since we've not had great returners and I left out guys like Ray Rice, Chester Taylor, Ed Reed, Chris McAlister, etc), RB does not necessarily have the best ball control skills for return.

If we take out Leonard and Ross (who were part time returners), the numbers slant a LOT more in RBs favor though, with RBs leading the PR avg and 2nd in KR avg by .1 to WR.

Take from this what you will, I just wanted to put up some stats to consider.
