    Confirmation on New HD Scoreboards

A few weeks ago I posted a thread regarding new HD video boards at M&T Bank Stadium. There was some speculation that it might only be for HD TVs in the club level or concourses. http://www.profootball24x7.com/forum...ad.php?t=41376

The below article sheds a little more light on the subject. In short it looks like we are getting new scoreboards!

In other Maryland Stadium Authority matters Tuesday, the agency unanimously approved a plan to borrow $24 million to pay for renovations and repairs to Oriole Park at Camden Yards, as well as upgrading the video scoreboard and video control room at M&T Bank Stadium.

Of that money, $10 million will go toward maintenance and safety upgrades at Oriole Park, $10 million will go toward renovating and repairing the seating bowl, and $4 million will go toward replacing the new scoreboards for the Ravens. The bonds will be repaid by setting aside the first $1.3 million each year that the Maryland Stadium Authority receives from the state lottery.

Stadium authority chairman John Morton III said a study done by the authority concluded that Oriole Park and its warehouse needed close to $30 million in repairs and safety renovations, as well as maintenance upgrades that would essentially pay for themselves by making the building more energy-efficient. Out of that number, the committee came up with a plan that could fix the most pressing issues for $10 million.

The Ravens are contributing $6 million toward the video scoreboard and control room part of the project. After a study that included input from the Ravens, the authority decided to go forward with a plan to add high-definition video boards similar to the ones inside Citi Field, the new home of the New York Mets.

That's seems like a low number for scoreboards.

I hope they are not going cheap and getting higher resolution instead of HD.

HD scoreboards are amazing and will light up the stadium like nothing you've ever seen .... well, unless you have been to a stadium that has one.

EDIT: My bad. Skimmed over the last paragraph. Great News!

Looking forward to the new screens. Hopefully, when showing replays in HD, they will no longer split the screen in half to show a sponsors ad.
In a 2003 BBC poll that asked Brits to name the "Greatest American Ever", Mr. T came in fourth, behind ML King (3rd), Abe Lincoln (2nd) and Homer Simpson (1st).

Given the improvement in resolution my guess is we will get 2/3rds advertisements and 1/3rd actual replay. We'll get the same number of pixels.

Any chance these go in during the season or is this an offsseason project?

Hopefully they will be in for the AFC championship game the Ravens will be hosting this season.
Keeping the purple flowing way out on the West Coast!

Why doesn't King Angelos pay for that shit himself?! Unbelievable - doesn't he own the warehouse?

No, the MSA owns it. The Orioles are on a 30 year lease.

Maryland Stadium Authority owns controlling stake in both stadiums and the warehouse.

It's called a lease. The Maryland Stadium Authority pays for these improvements, and collects rent from the O's and Ravens.

Anything that your "King Angelos" would pay for, in reality, is paid for by the fans, anyway, via tickets. Same for Bisciotti. There's no free ride on the backs of billionaire owners. It's capitalism, mixed in with Baltimore and Maryland investing lottery proceeds into major league facilities to attract and retain major league sports teams.

I believe that the Maryland Stadium Authority owns the warehouse.

Original story I heard stated it was an offseason project to have them ready for the 2010 season.

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification (without the douche-baggery).
