We also do 'Curtain Raisers' in rugby union games as well. It works best before a game as there is more time.

The supporters love it!!!!

Is it unusual for a pee-wee game before the main match or at the half?

Do they play on a full-sized pitch?
I have never seen this before, at least the way they did it.

They played on the regular field, they actually had two "matches" going which in reality were scrimmages. One team would start on offense on the opponent's 25 or so (one "match" on each end of the field). They gave them as many plays as they needed to score. Then after team 1 scored, team 2 would get their turn on offense. It was cool, the kids had to absolutely love it and it made halftime go by very quickly.

They could do this every halftime as far as I am concerned.
