Could Sen. Snowe make it 61???

Sen. Olympia Snowe — one of the three moderate Republicans including Arlen Specter who supported President Obama's stimulus package — told CNN Tuesday that she has also been approached many times about becoming a Democrat, but that it hasn't happened for a while.

"I've been asked, but not recently," she said.

Snowe said the Republican Party never learned its lesson from the "painful" party switch of Sen. Jim Jeffords in 2001.

"For me personally and then for the party, its devastating," Snowe said of Specter's move. "I've always been concerned about the Republican party nationally, about their exclusionary policies towards moderate Republicans. That's not a secretly held view on my part."

Hmmmmm....This is what happens folks when an extremist like Rush Limbaugh becomes the spokesperson for your party. How many people have spoken out against him only to later apologize? The Becks and the Hannitys are completely tearing the GOP apart with their directionless and unhinged rethoric and there is no one able to stand up and call these nutz out.

The Party of No that became the Party of Nothing is soon to become the Party of Nonexistent.

Great , then we will have the socialist party running the gov't with nothing to stop them,,,, the founding fathers knew we needed checks and balances in gov't because absolute power corrupts absolutely. In maryland we have a tax and spend then tax some more state with no responsibility to anyone, ... you dems complained about bush running up the deficit and then in 100 days oby the commie runs up more of a deficit than W did in 8 years. YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS GALEN,,, Your grandchildren and great grandchildren will face devastating ruination if the size of government does not get under control.

For fuck's sake let's stop with this "socialists are out to get me" bullshit.

Democrat does not, and never has = Socialist.

And its pretty indicative of how out of the whack the culture warriors have made things when a moderate Republican choosing to become a moderate Democrat is even equated with "another socialist." If the far right would ease up just a tiny bit and maybe work to embrace the political middle, people wouldn't be so quick to jump to the democrats.

But as long as the parties are divided like so:

Democrats= Far left, moderate left, centrist, moderate right

    vs.

Republicans=Far right, Farther right, Religious right, and Trap,

You're going to see a lot more of this.

You're yelling at the wrong person. The Republicans demise has nothing to do with Democrats but everything to do with themselves.

In order to get Bush elected for 2 terms they (Rove) had to make a deal with the devil or the Christian right (there is a fine line) and now they are paying th price. There is no leadership or ideas so the only thing that is resonating through the echo chamber is the crazy talk. The voice of the GOP is Rush, Hannity, Beck, and the rest of the radio wingnutz....which so far-outnumber liberal voices its a joke when conservatives complain about liberal media but that is a whole other thread.

The point is stop with the dittohead talk of socialists and fascists etc and tell your own republican leaders to do something...tell Rush to STFU...do soemthing other than wave around tea bags when Obama just approved the largest middle class tax break in history.

No one thinks a two party system isn't a good thing but the the other party better have something more to offer than restricting women's rights, denying the merits of science and truth, supporting the degradation of core American values internationally, and only increasing the wealth of the top 2% of the population.

Turn off your radio and t.v. for a couple months...the fog will clear.

Congress trims Obama's tax cut for workers
Updated: Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 | By Angie Drobnic Holan

One of the bigger pieces of the economic stimulus bill is the "Making Work Pay" tax credit, an initiative that Obama mentioned often during his campaign. If you ever heard Obama say he would give a tax cut to "95 percent of working families," this program is the origin of that claim.

Obama said the credit was intended to offset payroll taxes, which are automatically deducted from most workers' paychecks. Even if workers make so little that they do not owe income tax, the payroll taxes are not refundable. This is supposed to reimburse them for that. Under Obama's plan, the tax credit would be worth about $500 per worker, or $1,000 for working couples.

The initial version of the stimulus bill in the House, like Obama's original promise, was for $500 per worker. But that was reduced in the Senate to $400 per worker as a way of reducing the overall cost of the package. That lower level of $400 per worker, for a total cost of $116.2 billion, made it into the final bill. Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 on Feb. 17, 2009.
We should also note that the stimulus bill provides the tax cut only for 2009 and 2010. If Obama wants the tax cut to continue beyond those years, he will have to include it in future budget legislation. Indeed, it's possible Obama could raise the amount to $500 that way. But for the present, we find Obama tried to fulfill his promise and fell slightly short of the goal because Congress trimmed it to $400. That's what we call Compromise

$400 per year in welfage is the biggest MIddle Class tax cut in history?

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
Bush's package that will expire is FAR LARGER then that.
Even if Obama is giving you somehting in this hand, he is taking it elsewhere via his energy tax plan that will DWARF that cut.
