The GOP Spending Machine Continues

In this latest proposed federal budget, 40% of the earmarks are being added by the GOP. The Dems still hold the larger number in 60%.

Pretty sad.

The only one stepping away from this nonsense is John Boehner, who called on Obama to stop government spending. Now that's just laughable. If you're trying to expand your socialist agenda, the last thing you do is stop spending -- I mean if he does that, he cant get more folks on the Gubmint teet. But it's a good start from Boehner.

the whole earmark discussion is really overinflated. its a buzzword like "tax-cuts" that is too simplified. yes the dems have 60% of the eamarks but have you stopped to think that the dems have almost 60% of the senate? have you seen where the top 2 spenders are republicans? 6 out of the top 10 are republicans?

the only individual concerned about earmarks is john mccain because it seems to be simple enough for him to understand and allows him to bang his hand on the podium and discharge some of his anger at Obama for pummeling him in November. Oh yeah and sean calamity cares about earmarks because he it is simple enough for him to rally his zombies around

it is about 1% of the budget...really insignificant in the grand scope and often misunderstood by the population.

There was the year where an "earmark" was studying the mating habits of the blue crab. Now that would sound really stupid to someone in kansas but in Maryland where the blue crab is a large industry, the mating habit study is economically sensible and prudent. But earmarks are republican talking points that easily susceptible will rally against.

As far as Boehner is concerned and the latest Republican plan, in the face of yesterday's new spike in unemployment, the f"reeze on federal spending" is not even fair to say that this is a replay of the disastrous decisions that magnified the great depression but it's more a parody of it.

When the crisis is a rapid and catastrophic drop off in demand, you handcuff the one force that can create demand (i.e., the federal government) in the throes of the contraction. That's insane.

Levels of stimulus are a decent question. Intensifying the contraction is just insane and frankly a joke. It's time to recognize that the only debate here is happening among Democrats. The leaders of the GOP are simply not part of the conversation.

As for those GOP ear marks, thats a new one on me but w/o looking it up, I wonder how many of those GOPs are liberals - the very ones running the party now and the ones who put up McCain.

Tax cuts + reduced and or limited spending = economic success for most Americans.

JFK knew this as did Reagan. Ditto for Clinton until he raised taxes and put us in the mini recession.

Investigating the Bush Administration? For what?

North Korean Succession?

Israeli/Palestinian and India/Pakistan conflicts?

Isn't the threat of a 2nd Depression the reason why we would want to be careful with our money?

Health Care Reform?

Wall St Collapse? See that of 2nd Depression.

Housing Crisis? See Wall St and Depression.

Energy Reform?

Iraq issues are settled, right? We are on a schedule to leave now, right?

As for tax cuts, they work, stimulus spending does not.

I haven't had the time to confirm, but: I understand the "earmarks" amount to less than 1% of the budget... when the last Bush budget, and former budgets were up to 3% "earmarked" . So how can the Neo-con republicans actually be serious with their self-righteous condemnations?
