    Latest Gallup on Stimulus Bill

Just in case you have only been getting you news from the Rushannitycoutler.com press. Still a long way to go with no guarantees but Gallup suggests that Obama at 67% approval rating on the stim. is more attractive than the repubs. at 58% disapproval.

Obama certainly left the toilet seat up but the wingnuttery might have shot their load too soon....we'll see.

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/114202/Ob...lus-Fight.aspx

The data in particular show the sharp divide between the public's views of how Obama has handled efforts to pass a stimulus bill and its views of how the Republicans have handled this -- a divide that quantitatively produces a 36-point approval gap.

The funny thing about polls are how they ask the questions.

This "stimulus" is a freaking joke and won't do shit in the short term. Its loaded with fluff. If they really want to stimulate the economy, let people refi their homes at 4%/30 years with a $2k cap on closing costs/charges up to $600k, and make it possible regardless of credit rating. Or allow people to "streamline" their loan through their bank at minimal charge to the applicant with the same 4% mortgage rate over 30/years.

If people can save $300+ dollars a month (or perhaps much more), that would go a long way to stimulate our economy in the long run imo........

Americans DO want a stimulus. Nobody argues that point.

This Bill, however, is 93% pork and now 7% stimulus. The public sees it as the pig in lipstick that it is and are pissed.

Gallups forte is popularity polls anyway. Rasmussen has something completely different right now.

Only 37% of the folks support the Spending ... er .... Stimulus Bill

    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/publ...ge_falls_to_37

Ask any poll which they pay attention to and Gallup's name will not ever be uttered.

I am still trying to figure out how doing the same thing as the Bush Admin, adding trillions to the deficit and fearing people into going along, is considered "change".

93%? Even from you that is a dramatic exaggeration. What the Republicans have identified as pork has been around 1% - 2% by most accounts.

The Rasmussen poll is a week old...as usual things change day to day. From Gallup to Pew to CNN, all contemporary polls have the majority of people supporting the bill as is. Rasmussen also trends conservative. Look at this diagram where Rasmussen is trying to suggest that Obama has an approval rating of less than 40%:

Makes anything on this page a bit suspect to me immediately.

The truth is there is a huge disconnect between the true popularity of the bill and whose voice is most often heard talking about the bill:

When right wing cable news drives the notion that the bill is unpopular but poll after poll shows that the public favors it, you begin to see the how incorrect messages are crafted. We saw it in the whole campaign leading up to the election..."pals around with terrorist" etc. Right wing media can create the message all it wants but whne it comes down to it the public elected Obama AND the public favors the stimulus - recognizing that it is not perfect but it is what they want:

    http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/st...litical-elite/

"Senior Obama adviser David Axelrod ran with this ball on the campaign plane, too, saying that the new Gallup poll proves how out of touch Beltway insiders are."

But only you can choose to be a savy consumer of reality.

This has become tired language. Even Obama is comfortable calling it a spending bill because that is exactly how he sees a stimulus bill. So you can't stop correcting yourself each time and just stick to calling a spending bill if that is what makes you happy. That is what it is..well, at least about 60% of it.

Because spending money to rebuild Iraq after he blew it up as well as spending on prescriptions only adds to the military industrial complex and pharmaceutical companies. It doesn't stimulate much as far as the creation of jobs. Obama will "change" how money and job creation is distributed in this bill and he will attempt to help out more people in the long run.

Senator Inhofe broke it down by those percentages, not me.

And I dont know where you get your info on Rasmussen being biased toward the right -- Im sure it's some left leaning web site thats making that claim.

Rasmussen correctly predicted the outcome of the last 4 Presidential elections and had the correct number of losses the GOP would sustain the 2006 congressional elections.

No amount of graphs can take away from one distinct point -- the voters dont like the pork bill. After watching his presser last night, I thought it was W in black-face with all his fear mongering over the economy.

    Change is now officially dead.

But hey, at least he has some help from the media .....

    http://www.politico.com/blogs/michae..._.html?showall

If Rush or Hannity had an assigned front row seat at W's presser, you'd never hear the end of it.

It's going to create record level inflation. GWB spends $800B in 8 years and gets called a heathen.. BHO spends $800B with $1.4T more lined up right after and he gets praised. Pot.....meet Kettle.

how many times do I have to say it, the only way to stimulate the economy is to feed the 2/3 that drives it.... That is the consumer for all you galens out there.... the best way to put money in the hands of the people is to suspend the federal withholding tax, that way the people who actually earn money will have more of it to spend

Partially correct. Yes, you need to give more money directly back to the people and the best way is tax cuts.

But you also have to combine it with decreased spending. W made good on across the board tax cuts (which Galen and others love to call "for the rich) but he failed big time by not reducing spending.

JFK and Reagan understood this and they are the only two Presidents that showed a decrease in speanding during their time in office. They benefited by a robust economy in a very short time.

Obama, on the other hand, cant seem to grasp recent histoy ala Carter and W.

No one likes spending money...either way this things passes and there will be more to come.

I think the right is playing this thing very wrong right now. Polls show Obama still has strong support and the depending on what poll you look at, the majority show majority support for the bill.

Polls alos show that most people do certainly believe that Obama made a bipartisan attempt at the bill. Individuals like Lindsey Graham coming out and threatening Obama with comments like:

Graham: "It started with the attitude, we won, we write the bill. Dave Obey, Democratic appropriater in the House, created a monster of a bill that really stunk up the place and the public saw right through it and it came to the Senate and the compromise is actually more expensive then the original House bill. You've rearranged the puzzle a bit....

The public does like this president, he's a very likeable guy, but his leadership here I think has been unacceptable and his partisan rhetoric is going to make it harder for us to work together on banking and housing and if we don't solve the banking crisis and the housing problems, no stimulus package will jump start the economy."

are only serving to create greater divisiveness. The American public is listening to this issue and Obama has the ability to come across as a compassionate and competent individual. We saw the divisive rethoric from the right during the entire campaign...guess what right? It didn't work. These guys think they can shape public opinion about Obama by calling his ideas socialist...big spender...etc etc etc. It really does not appear to be working.

The more they come at Obama, the more Obama makes a amicable gesture in their direction. It is amazing ot me that they just don't seem to get it.

That's your change. Of course, the right also attacks that word now. They whine about expecting change and somehow act all disheartened when they can't pass their tax cuts for the upper 1%. There is so much change going on around them that they are dizzy and can't see it.

The right continues with their angry and spiteful politics and just can't seem to stop. That is wearing on the 70% of America that is not that extreme. It is just bad strategy I think.

Interestingly enough and indicative of something? Where has Rush been?

Fox was there...even they are smart enough to not send Hannity. I thought the exchange was interesting yesterday in the town hall mtg. where the woman asked about Obama having a beer with hannity. Obama didn't try to put hannity down or deny the question. That is how he is playing this whole partisan landscape. That is what will continue to appeal to 70% of the population. The right continue to want to hate their way to the top. ain't working folks.

    2+2 does not equal 5

Spending has NEVER produced a job.

    Death and Taxes.

Some things are just what they are, no mater which way you spin it. There is not creation of wealth in Obama's plan. All he wants to do is move money around, nothing more.

You keep right on with polls.

I will keep right on with what UNBIASED economists have to say. I will go right on with what the Democrat-controlled Congressional Budget Office has to say. Both of the later are not happy with anything with this spending bill.

Make no mistake, this is the largest spending bill in the history of the country and all it will do is add to the deficit.

It doesnt get more concise and accurate than this .... Not an economist in the word, or even the savior Obama, can challenge this.

Now, I am sure Galen will say he's some righty but then that will simply expose how much he doesnt know about Glenn Beck.

First off, the politicians should support the bill if they think it has merit and is Constitutional, not vote based on polls.

Second, can you please name one person or nation that has ever spent its way to prosperity?

If the government is going to get involved in the economy tax breaks to businesses to build new plants, get new equipment and put people back to work making things here once again is the way to go. Spending on infrastructure for new interstates and power grid improvements would also help. But this crapfest of a bill is one to stay away from and any politician who stays away from it is smart. It will hurt the economy by taking resources that could be used for investment and instead be used to buy condoms and build polar bear exhibits.
