    Great Start, Mr. President

    Poor Mr. Obama.

I guess this is what we get when someone is elected with style over substance. His on-the-job trinaing is not going so well.

First, he camapigned on transparency. That's fallen short. $350 Million in bank bail out money has gone to ... well, we dont know where it has gone because the White House is refusing to release the list of where funds are being distributed. But that's ok, at least it's not like him having a secret Blackberry .... oh, wait ....

Then he stumped for 5-day citizen review for ALL non-emergency bills. He called it the "Hope and Change promise". Well, chalk that up to another campaign promise that went the way of the doh doh bird. Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the S-CHIP bill within 3 days of being passed through Congress.

Stumping for ethics reform for a year, Obama gets elected and nominates not one, not two, but four tax cheats to high level cabinet position.

And the $1 Trillion spending .... er, I mean "stimulus" bill? People are wising up pretty quickly on that pig with lipstick.

But hey, it's ok right? I mean, G7 told us this is the mandate to end all mandates. Times are a changin'. It's what the American Public wanted and got.

Uh, well maybe not. He is now looking at the largest two week drop in approval ratings of any President in their first two weeks EVER.

But hey, what do I know.

Which can be succinctly summed up as the worst two weeks of presidential history, no? It's change all right, jsut not what people bargained for.

    Maybe.

Clinton had a similar start and wound up being one of the most popular President's after leaving office.

It's certainly not the demise of Obama. Yet. But the stakes are much more serious now then when Clinton was elected.

True but I am not sure about its significance really. I am sure this alone was not the reason for any votes. I imagine smaller initiatives like this take some time to put into motion. Needless to say, it is still strong progressive legislation protecting health and human rights --- not something we are used to.

I think this is one area that Obama would probably like to take back. That being said, Obama did engage in unethical behavior but was still able and willing to take his responsibility for the actions. Again, it is important to be clear that Obama was not unethical although listening to right wingers, one could be easily folled into thinking he was.

matter of opinion. there are a lot of strong progressive measures in the bill just because you aren't progressive doesn't mean there aren't good qualities to the bill. A lot of the problems are in how they are being framed by the conservative media.

For example...upgrading government fleets to hybrids. According to Obama:

Now, I read the other day that critics of this plan ridiculed our notion that we should use part of the money to modernize the entire fleet of federal vehicles to take advantage of state-of-the-art fuel efficiency. This is what they called pork. You know the truth. It will not only save the government significant money over time, it will not only create manufacturing jobs for folks who are making these cars, it will set a standard for private industry to match.

And so when you hear these attacks, deriding something of such obvious importance as this, you have to ask yourself: Are these folks serious? Is it any wonder we haven't had a real energy policy in this country?

This provisions works well for the environment, creates jobs, saves money on energy. Good stuff for environmentally concerned indivudals. Of course you won't like it because you don't think in that manner but is it Pork? Not to me.

Obama is taking blows from every angle by the resentful right. He is still standing and will be ok.

Hybrids don't save money at all with gas prices where they are.

That said, that is one of the better parts of the bill.

I'm more concerned with $25m for ATV trails etc.
I'm even more concerned with the fact that Obama is EXACTLY like he said he would not be. Lying, stealing....

Oh sorry, "changing his mind" and "mistakes on taxes".

Hybrid technology doesn't really save money even at high gas prices because of the premium cost to create it currently. But by purchasing the technology and using it it is "stimulating" the production of a good technology which will increase the usefulness of it AND make this country the leader it future car production in the future. Obama's stimulus bill is full of this type of stuff. It just takes one to reason their way through it.

There are those who would just rather attack Obama and call him a failure already instead of being objective with the bill. It will be paired down over time. There are a lot of provisions to protect jobs which will act as stimulus. I just heard today that a local school system is considering furloughing teachers. That has a really bad ripple effect on the economy.

This isn't a joke nor is it a time to play partisan politcs which clearly has not been Obama's agenda much to his detriment.

He is choosing thieves around him. Houston pointed out the lies. His campaign was empty words that were spoken to have a desired effect, that was all that was meant by them, do not read into any of them, they are hollow, and it's apparent they have very little to do with how he will run the country.

I actually said the Hybrid thing was one of my favorite parts. I am fully understanding of why a largescale order of the cars would benefit the economy in a fairly meaningful if longterm way. BTW, jsut becuase gas prices are low doesn't mean we don't have an energy crisis as well.

Partisan politics? escuse me? this spending bill is as diversive and partisan as it gets?

i don't think anything HR said would constitute a lie as much as a delay in what he wants to do...afterall is has been a whole two weeks. Obama hasn't stolen anything nor has he violated any ethical codes. I also wouldn't be so quick to say what has happened in the first two weeks of his presidency will be how the next four years will be run.

What is going on right now is a hate war against Obama. If you don't see that in Rush's words, Cheney's words and the right wing press at this point, it would obviously be hard to convince you otherwise.

everyone knew that the first time Obama left the toilet seat up, we would experience a full frontal attack. Its a shame but it is why the past 8 years have been as they are.

Obama goes on the air tomorrow night and will fully address his plan. I expect to see the tides begin to turn. I don't doubt that Obama rights this ship and ultimately the republicans aren't seen exactly as they have been seen for the past 8 years. Obama gave them a chance to play and they chose to run their same old and tired tax cut, anti govt. spending, socialist, liberal-bashing agenda which is what has gotten us here in the first place.

Republicans either continue to underestimate Obama as a politician or they undertestimate americans ability to see through their ruse. When employment numbers are released tomorrow there will be greater concern for stimulus - govt. spending stimulus. It is no coincidence that soon thereafter Obama will give first stimulus talk.

Delay of what he wants to do?????

Wow, that's whistling past the graveyard if I ever heard it.

I doubt you'd be so forgiving of the pol had (R) after his name.
