Wink FYI - air fares to Super Bowl

I just booked my tickets via Southwest to Orlando: Saturday arrival, Tuesday departure = $108 round trip. Orlando is an hour or so from the Tampa stadium. There are still seats available. Rental care $105 for the extended weekend. FYI: no change fees with Southwest, and money from cancelled trips can be reapplied within a year at no cost. So this was a no-brainer.

The Southwest best fare for Tampa was $345, Friday-Tuesday. Friday-Monday best fare was $433. I don't know if any of these fares will be available after Sunday (typically two week advance booking). The standard fare to Tampa is $580 r/t.

Per Orbitz, Northwest, Delta, and Continental all offer similar Orlando fares, but no non-stops. Air Tran non-stop is $150. For Tampa, the fares are in the same range as Southwest, with Air Tran non-stops at $460 . All these other airlines invoke ticket change fees of $100 or so - I don't know how long they will allow you to reapply the funds.

Punch line, some friendly advice: if you will fly again within a year and are remotely considering going to Tampa, jump on the $108 Orlando flights soon. You risk nothing, and can save hundreds. Moreover, if you wait too long, you may get skunked -- particularly if the Ravens wind up playing Philly.

We just booked Southwest to Orlando. Going Thurs and coming back Tues for about the same price. Great thing is, if by some chance the Ravens aren't in the Super Bowl, we have a great road trip to San Diego, which I will be going to. We have a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Tampa near the Stadium.

Now all I need is a win in Pukesburgh and tickets to the Super Bowl.

    Go Ravens

Had the same thought as you T - we booked our flights to MCO on Sunday.

We have to be at work on Tuesday, so booked ourselves back on Monday evening - a little more at about $195 round trip, but I can live with it. We leave on Saturday morning and will there around 1pm to save on accommodation costs (2 nights).

Maybe we could go to Disney World in the day on Monday!

Interesting question - when does the SB MVP get the parade in Disney?

Monday, or is it later in the week?

I'm booked to Orlando as well. Flying in Saturday 1/31 noon-ish and flying out Tuesday 1PM.

Now it's all about scouting the outlets for game tickets so I can pull the trigger late Sunday night. Oh yeah, and winning the AFC.

IIRC for SB XXXV, what I heard was there were about 5,000 - 10,000 or so tickets available to Ravens fans. The lottery weighting was something like 1:1 for suite holders, 5:1 for clubs, and over 10:1 for general admission.

Obviously, we all want to hit the lottery and obtain face value tickets.

I actually won a pair of tickets in the league-wide lottery for SB XXXVI in New Orleans. The face value of the tickets was $325. Since Grbac, Brookins, Travis Taylor etc did not take us to the Promised Land, I sold the tickets, over my wife's objections. I got $1,500 apiece, which was in the brokers' range. I subsequently saw on message boards that the street value that year was below $1000, with several claiming they bought them at face value outside the Superdome. Makes me think that SB XXXV may have been an aberration, due to all the NY Giants fans driving up demand.

Assuming that I don't win in the Ravens lottery and that brokers tickets are unreasonably high, I will go to Tampa to see what I can score down there.

I'll be doing the same. My worry is spending $1000+ and then finding at the gate it was counterfeit. I wonder of there are any ways to reduce that risk?

I also think it is wrong to give suite owners and Club level owners better chances in the lottery. By doing that you are basically telling about 90% of the PSL owners you are secondary. Of course I have been called a socialist before but this is a classic example of why I root for the common man.

It's a legitimate concern. My thought was to get the driver's license number and fingerprints of the person selling. If he refuses, it's a con.

As to the weighted lottery, I disagree with you. Fans who fork over $300 to $700 a seat should take precedence over those who pay $50 -$100 a seat. The premium seats are what Baltimore had to offer, which Cleveland could not -- they are the reason we have a team, which is financially successful.

One broker is saying they will guarantee your money back if your team doesn't make it.

    Interesting.

Yup, I've seen that on e-bay in several ads.
Most of those have alot of bids already, So I'll assume that alot of those bids are people whos teams are eliminated or are going to be eliminated.

So if that's the case, then you could be throwing up a bid that is essentially too high right now because previous bids are no longer really valid.
